Exclamation 1973 Dodge Dart Sport Air Shocks

I am replacing the air shocks on a 1973 Dodge Dart Sport. I bought replacement Monroe Max Air Shocks (part# MA704). When I received them they are much shorter than the ones already on the car. On the net and at all the local auto part stores they all list this model as the replacement. No way will these attach, even strecthed out all the way they are still about an inch short of the connection pins. There are is no manufacturer name on the air shocks that are already on the car only 729708 and P4123. Any ideas on the correct air shocks for my car that I am rebuilding.

Thanks
Del

I understand what you want to do, but I have to say that air-shocks place a load on the car that it was not designed for. Shock mounts support the dampening effects of the shocks. They are not designed to be a load-bearing-area. That is the springs job. So if the recommended air-shocks are not long enough, how high is your tail waggin?

Ok so, I should just buy the standard shocks instead of the air ones and replace the springs ??

If you have the car up on jacks with the rear end hanging they may appear too short. Like said the proper way is to replace the shocks and replace the springs or at least have them re arched at a spring shop

If you are putting tires on you car that will rub on the wheel wells than I would re-arch the rear springs, if you use air shocks and they give out you can chew-up the tires and wheel wells

Toss the traction bars in the scrap heap, get some new springs and U-bolts and be done with it the first time

Still in the same mess

After adding new shocks, leaf springs, u-bolts,etc, the right rear tire still rubs on the body. Left side is ok, with at least 3 inches of clearance. Any idea how to fix this.

Something it wrong.
Check the rear spring shackles. same size?
What size tire are you using?
Did you happen to use superstock springs? One of those will usually ride slightly higher than the other.
Measure your right height at the front wheels. Perhaps one of your torsions is set way low or (gulp) your torsion box is rusted, or frame twisted.
