Drum brake up grade

I have a 40 dodge coupe I would like to up grade to newer leading shoe style brakes. Would a system from the late 40's early 50's work? I would like go to a complete rear end if possible to get a lower gear ratio. Any suggestions would be nice.
Thanks

An 8 3/4, 8 1/4, Dana, rear could be modified to fit or cough! cough! a 9" ford. Depends on what the end use is going to be.. Does it have an enclosed drive shaft ?

Brake/rear end

Thanks. It has a open drive shaft. That will make the change over easier. I am more concerned on how to mod the front brakes with out going to disc brakes. Have a good day
