1970 GTX - Changed Turn Signal Switch, Now won't Start
PLEASE help guys. I have a friend who owns a 1970 GTX and he was having issues with his brakes lights not working, but everything else was working. I got my hands on a wiring diagram and read a couple of other threads and found out I needed to replace the turn signal switch. So, I pulled the top end of the Steering Column apart, pulled the old Turn Signal Switch and harness out, and then put the new one in. Got everything put back togther and brakes lights now work, awsome right??? Then we got to start it and nothing. No sound, nothing. We started it right before I pulled everything apart, so I know it was working before. So I pulled everything back apart thinking maybe a wring got disconnected, everything looked good. No fuses are blown. I studied the wiring diagram some more and found the yellow wire from the ignition switch is what sends power to the Starter relay. I checked the yellow wire under the dash and I am getting 12V when key is at START. I jumped the solenoid at the starter with a screw driver, and it cranked, I did the same thing at the starter relay and it cranked. The only other wire going to the starter relay is the neutral safety switch. Does anyone have any ideas, or can point me in a direction of what to check next??? Any Help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!
So.. The dash light come on.... But no Crank? I take it, the car is an Automatic Transmission car? Try Starting it in neutral and see if it cranks... Also... Check the Neutral safety switch....
Bob, Thanks for your Reply. Yes, it is an automatic car. Yes, dash lights on, when the key is in the ON position, but when I turn the key to START I get nothing. How do I bypass the neutral safety switch to find out if that is what is causing the issue. It does not start in Park or Neutral. Thanks for the help.
It ended up being the Yellow Switch wire, between the fire wall and the Relay, the wire/connection is bad. I took a temp wire from under the dash straight to the Starter Relay and she fired right up. Thanks Again for you Help Bob!
