2nd Distributor pickup coil fail in 200 miles

Okay it took me about 3 years to amass 200 miles on the Challenger.
Sure its easy enough to replace but
what should I be looking for that would cause this?


helpful stuff
battery in trunk
Crane fireball PS91 coil
Chrome 90 amp alternator
single pass ballast resistor
stock auto parts store elec distributor.
blue max wires.
champion plugs running .045 gap

Get a good quality dist pickup.. No Auto Zone crap

IMO. you need 3 ballast resistors. one running the engine. two in the glove box. DO plug the vent hole in the dist cap. JB-weld is good for that.

Also if you are running the stock ign ? YOU need the 4 prong ballast

Okay I'll wire in the 4 prong before I go any further. I had an Crane fireball ign on the car that I removed and I forgot that I had changed to a single from the double. Luckily I bought a lifetime pickup last time around.

Looking thru my wiring diagrams it does not appear as though you need to run a 4 prong ballast unless you have an older 5 pin ECU.
Mine is the mopar orange box which has only 4 of the 5 pins.
The mopar perf elec ignition kit even come with a 2 prong ballast in the box.


So I left that alone.
I am running a Crane PS91 coil so I have replaced the existing ballast with a new 1.5ohm model as suggested by Crane.
