BWD???

Guys -

Anyone ever hear of this company? The do OE style replacement electrical parts. The big advantage is that some of the local shops (like Advance and Pep Boys) carries their stuff for the older Mopars.

I've used their dist. caps and rotors, and they work fine, but seem to have aluminum, not brass contacts.

Also looking at there OE Voltage regulator.

Speaking of voltage regulators...

Anybody know the difference between the Mopar "stock" replacement part (Black P4529794) and the Constant Output regulators (Blue p3690731). I've been using the Blue ones for decades, but they billed as "for race applications only" and I ain't racing anymore... Anything to that?

Thanks

Archer

It's is Borg Warner and I would buy them over the stores name brand anyday of the week. The constant voltage regulator always calls for 14 vdc.

Eric -

Thanks, I know about the constant voltage, but is there any reason not to use it in a purely street rod? One shop was concerned about it overheating too quickly, compared to the std offering.

Guys -

I've been over the BWD website and didn't see anything about Borg Warner. Thanks for the heads up.

The constant 14 vdc "Race Only" voltage regulator is only about a half volt higher than a standard one. If it hasn't done any damage by now I would leave it alone.

Eric -

That's what I figured, especially since I've been using the same one since the 80's...

Guess, I get a little edgy these days with the "for race only" warnings. Back then that was the whole purpose or the car - sorta...

Thanks

There has been all kinds of rumors about these. One guy claims the only difference is a thick coat of epoxy which prevents them from being grounded. A regulator IS by definition "constant voltage." That is WHY they are called "voltage regulators."

If the bloody things were not so expensive, I'd buy one just to set the rumors to rest -- or not.

440 -

They are only about $25 (+/-) for either type, and the "race" model is usually the cheaper one - go figure.

Yeah, was kinda wondering about the "constant voltage" thing myself.

Thought they were supposed to ground to the bulkhead/fire wall via the bolts???
