Flasher units

(1970 Fury III)

Where are they located? my left turn signal stays on steady instead of blinking like its supposed to which in turn means it just looks like a brake light especially WHILE I'm braking.

My old '70 shop manual says "under the instrument panel in a bracket mounted near the ash receiver"

I assume from your statement that the right side do blink? Can't you turn them on and look for the sound?

It may NOT but could be the flasher if the right side works. Check all lamps and grounds at sockets. If it's neither the flasher nor socket/ bulb problems, it could be the switch.

right side works great both on front and rear of car, left side the lights come on but they are steady and don't blink. i turned on the car and hit the right blinker and i can hear it above the cigarette lighter somewhere but i cant find exactly where it is, kind of a cramped space. Does your manual say what you have to take apart to get to them? I'm kinda hoping I don't have to pull the dash apart...

Am NOT an expert with this body style, but you may look into just removing the ash tray and its bracket.. shouldn't be but 3-5 screws holding it in place unless its a formed piece of dashboard. You really shouldn't have to dis assemble any of the dash tho, those are made to service eventually, altho being a contortionist maybe handy. But on to the real culprit, if one side works and other doesn't it is NOT going to be the flasher unit, it operates either side with one circuit. I would check ALL the bulbs on the side not working, making sure the GROUNDS are grounded properly. If all is well with grounds/bulbs, it is going to be in the turn signal switch itself. one more test to try is the hazard lights to see if ALL lights are working/flashing properly. Let us know what you find....

I finally found and replaced the flasher unit it was located on the ashtray plugged into a bracket on the left side, i had to go in through the AC vent above it and never would have found it if i hadn't, cant see it from the floor board even with the ac ducts removed. Both the blinkers work now was definitely a faulty flasher unit. Thank you for the help.
