Turn Signal Cancel Cam HELP

I have a 1965 Sport Fury. The turn signals did not shut off when turning, so I bought a replacement cam. I got my steering wheel off and saw the the long tabs on the original were broken off. As I put the new one in I noticed there was nothing that was going to touch the tabs to shut of the turn signal except a flat washer. Do they rely on friction? Am I missing a piece? Does anyone now where I can find a good image of the assembly? If I had a picture of what it should be I'd be home free.

the part that cancels it is located on the back side of the steering wheel.

Thanks, I did not see anything on the back of the wheel. Can you give me an idea of what it looks like or part name/number?

on the back of a stock steering wheel is a small metal stud about 1/4 that sticks out to cancel the turn signal it doesnt stick out very far so its easy to miss.
