New Sun visors not going on, '64 Dart convertible

(Hammered visors on). After talking with some other Dart owners, and visiting a friend with a '64 Valiant, I found out that their visors just fit very extremely tight. So we forced them on, first by hand to start them (we had to push so hard it made the car move, so I had to put the emergency brake on) and then by placing a large old bolt in the end and hammering on it with a hammer. I crossed my fingers that the old visor rod would not snap off in the process (would be very hard to replace because its part of the convertible top latch system), but they are on now and not disfigured by the process. Thanks for your input. ~Arcadiax

I have no experience, but I would say they should fit tight
