Why vinyl roof produces rust?

Hi!

I love the good looking of a black vinyl roof but I've always heard and seen that the vinyl rust the entire roof.

What's the reason?

is there any way to prevent a vinyl roof get rusted ?

for the most part the vinyl traps moisture and the constant stretching and shrinking acts like sand paper. thus creating the perfect conditions for rust to form.

Vinyl roofs are a PITA, have to keep them clean and use a vinyl conditioner at least once a month. Keep the car under cover when possible, the sun will dry out the oils in the vinyl. just my .02 worth.

They don't necessarily produce rust. If the car is garaged, you shouldn't have an issue.

Just do basic things like keep the roof clean. I had a vinyl roof done on my car. After 6 show seasons, it still looked new. I never conditioned it or anything. All I did was keep the dust off.

You get rust when the top drys out and cracks. The cracks let the water in. Then it starts to rust

X10 if the top is taken care of it will last a life time, but if the car is outside all the time in the sun 5 years tops before the UV rays breaks down the vinyl and the cracks allow water to get into the felt backing and causes rust....Bill
