Window molding adhesive

Guys -

OK, stupid question #26.

I replaced the rubber side window molding on my 74 Charger SE last year. The originals didn't have any adhesive, so I just slipped the new ones into place. They sorta held for a while, but the new soft rubber didn't stay in the tracks very well. (Remember this is an SE with the opera windows.)

I used the black Permatex weather strip adhesive, and that lasted a few months. (It's a type of contact cement, and kinda watery.) Yes, both surfaces were cleaned!!!

Anyway, I have to re-glue them now. Wondering what the easiest adhesive was to use. I was thinking of good old permatex ultra black RTV. Anybody use double stick tape for this? The weather strip adhesive was just too watery to work with neatly.

The car very rarely sees rain, so this is just to keep the soft rubber liner in place. Neatness counts!

Thanks

Archer

The 3M stuff is great.. Do it right the first time.. You don't get a 2th chance-- it sticks...
I would also tape off the adjoining surfaces

Guys -

Kinda what I'm trying to find out.
I generally don't like contact cement because in most cases, once the mating surfaces touch, that's about it. I would rather something with a little more set up time.

If you recall the way the molding on the 3rd gen Chargers, there's a track and a lip that have to engage. Once miss with a contact cement, and that's it.

Thanks

Ohhhh No..... It's not a contact cement!!!!!!!
Read it for your self....
This is what they used back in the day....
What we are saying is...Just get it installed rite the first time....
You'll have time to work with it...

You will be glad you used it!!!!
