85 Dodge Diplomat Project Gramps

Ok i just got this car about a week ago it has a sound body for nothern car and runs alright interior clean.low miles.
Ok its a 85 Dodge Diplomat SE electric everything/AC/Power sunroof/continental wheel kit. Its a 318/auto/84k original miles.

so far i drove it home and relized it pulls to the left alot and has a viberation around 60-65. Has hesitation at start off and NO POWER
i mean oce ur drive and step on it it starts to go but not enought to get out of its own way lol. I think its the electronic fuel system/emission ****.

Currently done wheel off back/air shocks/shackels and a tach

pic be4 i took rear wheel off

Swap your two front tires left to right. See if it now pulls to the right.

Don't see those too much anymore or ever with a continental kit. You should keep it on there.

TvLynn is right...get you some factory shackles and some KYB gas-a-just shocks...better ride and better looking...remember that 318 went from 230 hp in 1968 to 140 hp one you got...feels like a real dog in a heavy 4 door car..I Know cause I got a 1981 Gran Fury..vibration could be that boat ride feel from those rubber hocky pucks they used for the front k-member...I Know that because my Aspen had those..

honestly idc to much about a smooth ride and i know it a low hp motor do to emissions and that **** but for now id like to at least. Do away with emissions/take out the lean burn stuff and go with ingnition swap/ i got a eldebrock performer intake and eldebrock 600 or 650(have to check) carb and im removing ac/air pump/cat are coming off.And duel exhaust going on . I plan on geting an older 318 to build up my friend has a 318 from 85 fury bored .040 over/ofenhuser intake/and purple cam,idk what else has been done to to. Cause after i get another motor for it i got some plans for the trans that prob hasnt been seen alot

I was told the 2 brownish wires go to distributor then black/yellow go to -coil side. Then a wire from + side of coil to restistor. Then blue/yellow to other side of resistor. Then same side as blue wire on resistor run a wire from that to a 12v wire that gets power only in (key run) position?

Don't go by wire colors on these diagrams I don't have a book that covers your year model with the correct wire colors...just use a multimeter to find out which one is run and which one is start.

it is a low hp motor smog motor basically. u do some stuff to it can bring it up a bit swap heads if u like def get rid of that computer though get one of those mopar boxes and distributor with it. If ur looking for an older 318 might as well go with a 360 if u want to swap. My 318 was a beast in mine and a pig lol

I put some cheap Speed-Pro cast pistons in mine that were only 27 thousands down in the hole versus the stock 8.5:1 pistons that were 1/2" down in the whole...I calculated my new CR to be more like 9.2:1 which with a 470 lift came gave me about 236 horses...go to Comp Cam and get their cam quest software...it will select a cam for you and give you an idea where you will end up being...go here for a CR calculator..

You dont happen to have alot of fifth avenues in junkyards up there do you? I been trying to find pieces for mine but alot got crushed here and the ones that are left arent much beter then what i have. It wont be having a motor soon since thats going in our ram but ill probably get a 360 to put in it though. If you happen to see quarter panels or passenger side fender with the grill let id be very interested in buying it off you.

Bypast the electronic fuel system (Vaccum) and change you're distributor to an old version is the best for this first time. Find a old 1983 and -, an 318 without EFS and put distributor and CDI box on yours. The same bad thing it's you doesn't have avanced put set-up with sound check for the best timing. I ride my fifth avenue 1985 since 5 years like that and it's the best for first step for cheep cost!
