1966 dart
Hi all! This is my frist post. I have a 1966 dart 273 2 door. The carb on it looked like it had been under water for the last 15 years. I tryed to clean it but it was to far gone. So I am looking for a good new one that would work in its place. I am trying to keep it as stock as i can. so if you have any info for me that would be great. Thanks Kris

It's probably a carter-AFB. The closest thing you will find for it will be an Edelbrock Performer carb. the smallest one they make is the 500 cfm version. You can get one with a manual choke or an electric choke, (electric highly recommended). Also, buy the mopar linkage adapter to go with it. (less than $10). If you ge this route, you can do away with the manifold type choke......(another alternative would be to rebuild your carb that you got. It may look bad but you would be amazed how well a good cleaning and rebuild can do.) Google the "summit racing" website. there you will find the Eldebrock carbs. Anyway, you can look on the website and see if your carb looks like the Eldebrock carb. If it does, then its a Carter that you have on your 273. (eldebrock bought the design rights to the old Carter AFB's).
If it does not look like the Eldebrock, than the carb has been changed.

Swapping the front to disc brakes is not that hard IF (this is a big "if") you are mechanically inclined OR you just let someone else do the work. Doing this work can be a real pain in the ***. To make things worse, there are not too many people that I would trust to do the work because most of the mechanics nowadays have never worked on an old dart (or similar). You will need to find someone who knows these cars AND is not just blowing smoke up your back-side. (I could do it but I don't know where you live). Master power brakes has the parts for the conversion. Or you can find them in the junkyard on a 1973 or newer dart-duster-valiant etc. with the factory disc brakes. One word of warning; if you go this route, you will need to change the wheels to the newer style with the larger
4 1/2 inch wheel mounting bolt pattern. (probably a good idea anyway; stronger). Of course, now you will have the problem that the rear wheels will have a diferent pattern. Just get a different rear or do what I did when I had a 64 dart. I just carried 2 spares.[one of each bolt pattern] (lazy persons fix).
Any way, if you got any problems, just ask for help on this forum, we'll walk you through any problems. Hey, that's a nice thing your doing for your mom!! I like it!

well let me start off by saying thank you for all of the info. the carb that was on the engine, i took off and apart put all the parts in our carb cleaner at work for about 12 hrs and then put the top end in a cem. like wd40 over night. i then tryed to get the chock rod to move and it did not so i was going to take the valves off and try to push the rod out of the block. the two screws snaped off in the rod. i figgerd it was now junk. if i think about it it does look like a eldebrock. so a 500 cfm would be compatible? and on to the brakes i am a tractor tech and have worked on lots of trucks and brakes so the conversion does not bug me to do. i just realy did not know where to go or where to look. so one last question, the disturator on the car has two points is this stock or after market?
