1975 Gold Duster
So , I bought my newest A-Body this afternoon, its a 1975 Gold Duster. NO motor or transmission, but it has the good K member and disk brakes already, The front pillars are starting to get bad from the vinyl top, but I think I can get it stopped and welded up just fine. So, I have questions of all of you who have experience with the newer Dusters. Im curious if the grilles / headers / hoods are interchangeable from as early as 1970, as in can I put the 70 - 76 parts on any of the between years Dusters? Can I put the 71 front end on a 75 duster? Also, with the spool type K member what do I need to swap in a 440?
Also , Im wanting to know what models had the dual scoop hoods. Im going to totally custom this car. Thanks all . |

I just re-read the part asking about the twin hood scoops...
http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...yZ1zT4X9XSbLpn are you talking about the two on either side of the hood, or the dual snorkel? http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:L...plyvq8.jpg&t=1 The two scoops option was used on the 70-71 Dart/Demon/Duster 340 cars. Not sure about the 72...the 73 and up used the dual snorkel scoop. I'm going to install the dual snorkel on my Duster. Not going to put a scoop on the Demon, as I don't know if the cars with the hood treatment had scoops...and I think it looks just fine without the scoops :D Hope this helps ;) j |
scoops
Yes im refering to the 2 scoops on opposite sides of the hood.

Here are some Pics of the duster as is , when I bought it. I posted more in an album on my profile, take a look, let me know some ideas for the build / restore. Odds are it'll be a 360 when Im done, or a HOT 318, depends on what I decide to build. All comments always appreciated.

I say go 440 Back it with a built A-518, and an 8.75 and you are set :D

Looks like you got a pretty solid car there.
Do you have any motor and/or transmission for this car yet? |
I always called mine the "Raisin Bran Hood" .......You know, Two scoops.

You can get an adapter to mate them up. There is a good article in Hot Rod that ISN'T about Chevrolets ( ;) ) about the conversion. I have seen numerous posts on other forums about the very same. This is what I would LIKE to do with my Duster, if I stay automatic. I happen to have an extra 440 if you are interested. It's disassembeled right now...I got it with the '68 Dart a while back. IIRC, it is a complete short block.
So... you will need:
I also have an extra 8.75 housing if you are interested. It's labeled 68/9 B Body. If you still have my number, give me a holler Sunday ( My next day off :D ). Maybe we can do some horse trading. j |
