1975 Gold Duster

So , I bought my newest A-Body this afternoon, its a 1975 Gold Duster. NO motor or transmission, but it has the good K member and disk brakes already, The front pillars are starting to get bad from the vinyl top, but I think I can get it stopped and welded up just fine. So, I have questions of all of you who have experience with the newer Dusters. Im curious if the grilles / headers / hoods are interchangeable from as early as 1970, as in can I put the 70 - 76 parts on any of the between years Dusters? Can I put the 71 front end on a 75 duster? Also, with the spool type K member what do I need to swap in a 440?

Also , Im wanting to know what models had the dual scoop hoods. Im going to totally custom this car. Thanks all .

Congrats! How's the interior?

I BELIEVE the only problem you will have is complying with the bumper regs as the 71 style front bumper is not 5MP Impact.

The easiest way will be with he Schumacher motor swap mounts, and probably their headers as well. Does the car have power steeing, as that can pose an issue...

IIRC, it was the 73 and up Dart Sport 340/360 and 73 and up Duster 340/360. I don't know if they made a Dart Swinger 360 that late, and if it also had the scoop, but it IS an A-Body scoop. That is the one I want to use on my Duster

I just re-read the part asking about the twin hood scoops...

are you talking about the two on either side of the hood,

or the dual snorkel?

The two scoops option was used on the 70-71 Dart/Demon/Duster 340 cars. Not sure about the 72...the 73 and up used the dual snorkel scoop. I'm going to install the dual snorkel on my Duster. Not going to put a scoop on the Demon, as I don't know if the cars with the hood treatment had scoops...and I think it looks just fine without the scoops

Hope this helps

Pics of the duster.

Here are some Pics of the duster as is , when I bought it. I posted more in an album on my profile, take a look, let me know some ideas for the build / restore. Odds are it'll be a 360 when Im done, or a HOT 318, depends on what I decide to build. All comments always appreciated.

Looks like you got a pretty solid car there.

Do you have any motor and/or transmission for this car yet?

You can get an adapter to mate them up. There is a good article in Hot Rod that ISN'T about Chevrolets ( ) about the conversion. I have seen numerous posts on other forums about the very same. This is what I would LIKE to do with my Duster, if I stay automatic. I happen to have an extra 440 if you are interested. It's disassembeled right now...I got it with the '68 Dart a while back. IIRC, it is a complete short block.

So...

you will need:
  • Schumacher mounts
  • BB tranny, or adapter for the A-518
  • I would suggest at least 340 Duster tortion bars for the street
  • Check the rear end. Swap to an 8.75 if you can.
  • Radiator

I also have an extra 8.75 housing if you are interested. It's labeled 68/9 B Body.

If you still have my number, give me a holler Sunday ( My next day off ). Maybe we can do some horse trading.
