it has completely new rocker panels and rear quarter panels and the new pan on the drivers side floor pan in the back... other than that the only other rust i ran into was on the hood under the rediculus scoop the previous owner had put on it thank god i have a hood that is in better shape with the original scoops on it

there should be a scribed hand written number in it.

If you ran it and have a feel for the duration you can measure base circle with micrometer (smallest circle possible)
then oblong part. Difference is lift at lobe. times that number by1.5 rocker and you have lift at the valve.

If its off the shelf grind search the catalogs for those lift figures and you have the cam.

This is BALLPARK way. You should have a shop measure if there is no number on the cam..

Nice ride!

thanks for the info... got pretty lucky it looks like the motor was rebuilt a while back and you can definately see that it sat for a few years. it has .30 over pistons .10 over rod bearings and .20 over main bearings in it.. my main reason for tearing it apart is to find out why it was burning oil. After pulling the heads and looking at them and comparing the valve seals to another set of 340 heads i have it looks like whoever rebuilt this motor put the wrong valve seals in it.. which would probably explain why it was burning oil upon start up

well guys i have been making steady progress on the good ole duster.. I was going to post more pictures but yesterday i had to go get 6 teeth pulled. four were my wisdom teeth so im kinda just laying around today. but anyways i found out that it had a 71 340 in so i bought a full engine rebuild kit for it because it was already 30 over. a new summit cam and lifters and just finshed putting it back together the other night so it will be fresh for summer. my dads best friend is going through the 727 and found a bunch of stuff wrong with it so hes fixing it up with a rebuild. my new 2500 stall converter is in the mail. and me and my dad got the whole front clip fitted because we finally found a good hood to put our original scoops on. we even got the little blinker lights that go on top of the fenders. shes coming together nicely now. its going in for paint next week. i cant wait for spring time to take her out and cruise around town. absolutely pumped for that first ride because at that point all the hard work will have paid off..... Pics to come later as soon as i feel like doing somthing today

I really like the condition your duster is in man. I wish my 70 duster was in as good of shape as yours is.

Love seeing pictures of the progress!
