Brake ID

I have a 71 Duster that has been converted to front disc brakes (5x4.5 bolt circle) and was told that it was from a 73 Duster. How can I verify this and what parts would have been changed out for the conversion (steering knuckle, control arms, brake hoses, etc)? Thanks.

Well, It COULD be from an A body '73 to '76. It would involve changing the lower and upper control arms, spindles, brake hoses, proportioning valve, and master cylinder. And of course, adding the calipers, rotors, and such. Basically, all the brake parts and some of the front suspension parts. I don't know the part numbers, but it is a common swap...specially if you have a V8 of any descent power output.

Well the control arm bushings, ball joints and pads are shot. How would I know what parts to order since we can't determine the vehicle they are off of? Or am I screwed?

Simple. You pick up front end parts for a '73-'76 A body. Dart/Sport, Duster, Valiant, Scamp. All those would have the same front end parts. If the K-Frame has been changed to a late A, even the pitman and idler arms are of the '73-'76 variety.

Or, you ARE screwed, and you should sell me the car...for...say...$50 US
