Good project? 71 plymouth scamp/valiant
Hello im looking to completely restore my first chysler being 17 years old, my dad has already restored a 69 dart 340 and a 76 duster 440.
I found a 1971 plymouth scamp 2dr. hardtop 6cyl car with no engine or trans for 500 bucks. the body is in decent condition.. a couple dents in the fender and quarter on the right side, faded blue paint, ugly blue interior cracked dash liner and seats. pretty complete car other then missing the grille which is think might be impossible to find, i can find 1973 and up grilles but they look ugly compared to the 71 factory one.
Think this would be a good base for a street/strip project? assuming that i can find all the parts. i want to re-do the interior as all black with bucket seats, change to floor shifter. unsure on the exterior final color but some metallic. then put in a 440 big block with maybe the purple .509 cam and 452 heads, 727 trans, 8-3/4 rear then mini tub for tires.
the only resto site i know of thats good is www.yearone.com is there any more i should know about?
I can pick this car up this Saturday if i want.... heres two pictures lemme know what you think.

sweet ride, mucho potential. i started mine when i was 15 and put many paychecks into it. yearone is great, so is the paddock. also look into the slant-6 to bb adapters for an easy swap. you shouldn't have a hard time finding a grille that would look good.
hope you do it, looks like a fun project

welcome to the forum.
E-bay and craigslist will become your friends rather quickly as you can get some really good deal on them if you look hard enough. That is the same color blue as a 68 Plymouth Valiant that I am picking up this weekend.I would go for it. Looks like you will already have a good start with this car as the engine and tranny are not there.

Welcome!! That should be a great car to start with and nice job with the funds! My first one was built paycheck to paycheck. I agree ebay and CL are great places to find things. Another place you could look is right here on the forum. I have found a few parts here for good prices. Year One always seemed high priced to me, but sometimes they are one of the few places to have things.

you are lucky having the internet as a resource. 10 years ago, when i did the lions share of my parts searching, the internet was just starting to gain steam. i spent many hours on the phone, scouring through junkyards. took me a month and a half of solid old school detective work to find everything to do my slant-6 4speed set-up.

8 Grand!!!You should be able to build an awesome car for that kind of money!!! Check out "Project Dart" here in these forums, I built that car on a budget, so can you! Start with this Dart you are looking at and you will have a very nice project when it is finished. Just a couple cautions to help you out. First, check the frame rails for rust. As good as the rest of the body is, if there is rust there, it makes for a very tough project. Second do everything right. It is easy to get rolling and see the finishline and start cutting corners. It is also easy to start taking short cuts when the money starts tightening up. Just take your time and keep your eye on the finished quality car.
Good luck!!! I am happy to help with any questions you may have, and there are other knowledgeable people on here as well. Don't be afraid to ask.
