Aluminum heads

Hey guys it's been a while but my car is still in the paint shop, but I was wondering if I get some aluminum heads for my 440 RB do I have to do any other work to the engin or is their a set that I can just put on and it is ready to go? And in a ball park figure how much HP do you get whenever its set and done?

Different chamber sizes are available, alum can handle more compression. Other wise a simple swap. You probably should check push rod length

^^^^^

What he said, and pushrod clearance was an issue with 440 source products.

Some others have had a too tight valve guide issue.

I would be very wary of any aftermarket aluminum head. The Edelbrocks for my son's Ford were checked by our trusted machinist and passed which shocked me. While I was there one of his friends, another mostly Chevy high performance engine builder said that AFR's quality had been dropping due to shopping for less expensive parts for their heads. He gave the 50 cent cheaper retainer times thousands is a less expensive product end price, not for more profit but just to stay in the game.

I have heard the same as Drag Pak about the Chrysler products. It seems to be across the board regardless of manufacturer or which of the big three it is for.

I dropped Edelbrock RPM 84cc heads on my old 440 with no other changes (other than gaskets and head bolts). Seat of the pants, maybe 50HP. Not bad for a $1200 bolt-on.

So can I use the same springs and all that I have on my heads right now or do they come with them on already? I hear you $1200.00 for about 50 more HP is not bad, Iam also thinking about removing the power steering pump and going manual and the fan clutch and all and up in electric fan on the radiator.

Mine were fully assembled. I've considered a manual steering setup too, let me know what you think if you do it.

Friend of mine did it on his 73 challanger and it's not that bad at all when the car starts to move, unless you are turning the wheels when the car is stopped it can be a bear,,But over all it's not as bad as I thought it was gonna be.

Unless you are building a RACE ONLY car (and one that runs in Class), I would keep the power steering, and the clutch fan (unless it is worn out).
