'72 D200`360 LA` died while driving

I got my '72 D200, up and running last night. A little recap. I rebuilt the holley 2 barrel carb on it and poured gas down its throat to fire it over. It took a minute to catch and after pumping the pedal, it fired over. It idled for a while then died. I changed the ballast resistor as that fell part in my hand. After that it would not crank over. Looked at the cap, that was fine, rotor was rusty changed that and it was pointing at the #1 cylinder. So after that tried to crank her over with fuel down the carb nothing, checked spark once more noticed it was weak, so the coil went off and put a new one on. It finally cranked over, with fresh plugs.
Decided to take it down to the local gas station for fresh gas. It drove fine, until I got right near the pump and the filter got all gummed up with rust from the tank. I had a spare, from the aux tank, and popped it off, and went on to fill it up. Filled up with 6 gallons of gas, and drove home. This is where the trouble started. It drove fine then burbled like it was running out of fuel, so gave it more gas, and it died. So like a crappy chinese fire drill, my buddy and I, went into action. Grabbed the gas can from the bed, popped the hood and poured gas down its throat, fired right up then. Did that every couple hundred feet, till the truck just gave up. At the last point, it sounded like the fuel was boiling like a witches cauldron in the carb and then I noticed on cranking that the #1 and #3 cylinders spark plug wires were sparking off the block.

Any guesses on what the problem could be. I very understand it could be the tank giving me the problems, however the new filter wasn't that clogged.

Sounds like cleaning and flushing the fuel system would be a fine place to start... Also check the fuel pump for pressure..
