77 W200 crank no start

77 W200 crank no start

I bought this truck to get it running and driving and don't know what to do at this point ran when I bought it then just wouldn't idle while in drive or anything put new fuel filter and I'm getting fuel but I have no spark there was goo coming out of my ICM so I replaced it and sanded thr fender for a ground , new coil,rotor and cap aswell as a new ballast still no spark gonna do wires and plugs next when I put the key in run after cranking it stutters like it gonna start I need help
it's a 360 gas engine not sure on the year

If you're certain that you're not getting spark, try running a jumper wire from the positive side of the battery to the positive on the coil. Spin it over and see if it starts either by key or jumping the relay on the fender. If it starts, you have an open circuit between the key and coil.

If you have no spark after changing out parts, I would check to make sure there is voltage at the ign. coil + terminal with the key on and again in the cranking position. With the key on engine off the coil voltage should be around 8 to 9 volts and while cranking should match battery voltage.

I'm not second guessing your diagnostics that you're certain you have no spark, but some of the things you're mentioning don't add up either. While it was running you said it was a rough idle in gear. You also mentioned after attempting to start, it stutters. Those all sound like fuel, possibly a flooding problem. Those engines though good, did jump timing (worn chain) on shutdown causing what your symptoms are. Of course were diagnosing by brail here.
