Question 84 D150 4wd drivetrain swap

I have an 84 D150 prospector 4wd which currently has a 318 out of a 93. My question is.... Is it possible to get the drivetrain (engine, tranny, transfer case) out of a 03 or newer 4wd truck with a hemi and transplant it in my 84? Is the transfer care located on the correct side for the front driveshaft? I been contemplating this for some time now but wondering if it's worth the effort.
Thanks for all input and information.

Have you given any thought of doing a frame swap? It’s popular with the diesel guys…

If your going to swap with a transmission I think using a newer motor/transmission would be the way to go. Possibly getting something close to new after all why go through all the hassle of the electronics for the older version with more miles or rebuilt.

Do you happen to know if the newer version transfer case is on the passenger side or drivers side? Would like to pull a complete drive train if possible.

Can’t help you there but I would think most are for drivers side driveshaft. Pick your year and goggle it.
