Did stick pops up! WTF?

Yes, on my 74' d200 that I use stricly as a plow truck. 318 motor. The did stick pops up 3" or 4", and even sprays oil. Could anyone please tell me what could possiblly be going on?

If I understand right, Did the dip stick come out of the block? I know I had issue with 383 when I removed manifolds and heads. It didn't take much for the dipstick tube to slip right out of the block. Got it back in pretty easily.

No, the tube is in place. The dip stick keeps popping up out of the tube a few inches and sprays oil.

Dip Stick might be bent a little and catching the weight and pops the stick out.
If not sometimes blow by will do it if theirs a restriction in the system venting.

High mileage? Shot rings can blow dipsticks out. First thing id check is the pcv and breather situation though, make sure they're not clogged. Then I'd get some wire and tie the dipstick down, its just a plow truck, right?

it is quite common on old engines that have not been serviced well...Youve got a blow by problem and the breathers are plugged the pressure is building up and will find the path of easiest resistance which happens to be the dip stick in your case....Take the breathers out and soak the in kerosine or brake cleaner then check the PCV and hose make sure there is vacuum at the PCV valve if not it needs to be cleaned also...Bill
