Grill swap-1973-1976 grill on 79-90 D100

I've been considering doing a swap and installing a 1973-1976 grill on a 78-90 D150 or D250. This is a reverse of the GM Square body crowd who put later model front clips on 1973-1980 trucks. Does anyone have any experience or advice on this idea?

Thank you in advance.

I initially researched doing it the other way around. It looked doable - especially if all you want is the grill swapped. From what I found it did look like you might have to alter some of the mounting locations on the grill but it is pretty identical size wise.

This thread does not have a ton of info but some of the guys discuss it briefly: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...9-to-78-a.html

I've actually seen one put into a mid 80s pickup. They used the hood grill and the panel below the grill along with the front bumper. What suprises me is how well it works, that is that it looked good.

Thank you for the update! This is exactly what I wanted/needed to know.
I have been looking for pre-1981 trucks and most of what I found are either pretty ragged out or too expensive for my (lack of) budget. When I added 1981 to 1990 to my search, the trucks I found were better choices, dollar for dollar. If I can find one that I like and make the grill/fishpond hood switch I should have pretty much what I wanted.

Your reply was very helpful. Have a great day.
