    Hi Joe,

Great to hear from you, I know its been awhile. I'm into 3 motors now, trying to decide the best option for my Demon. I was putting motor stuff on the back burner for awhile and just trying to set up shop compressor, crane stuff like that but I am really thinking I would like to put a 340 back into this little A body as that was the original ,motor and they were pretty powerfull little mills in their day. I'm glad to hear that things are coming together for you and yours. What did you bore your cylinders out to?? What year was your motor again?? I forget. I'm thinking of selling my 440 to a friend. Giving it away practically. If I go with the 340 that is. I may pick one of those up tomorrow. I also have a 400 that I was thinking of stroking out to a 451. Options. Options. I'll try and keep in better touch than I have. Thanks for the update. Take care. Joe

Hi Joe, I'm not too sure about the carb. I don't really know that much about them, I hear that for a street motor though a 600 would do fine. I also hear a vac secondary is best for street applications also. Is yours a vac secondary or double pumper? Did you find that the 750 was suitable for your 396, if so I may go that route as well since it`s a bigger CI motor. I like comp cams xtreme series as well. I`m thinking the 12-5800 rpm range. I think its around 268-280duration with a 470 lift. Are you going to be using a stall at all, I was thinking maybe a 2200-2500. Thanks for the update and good luck with the test work on the block. Let me know how it shapes up and have a good weekend as well.

Great to hear the teardown went well. Sorry I didn't get back on the piston, sound like you made out alright. Congrats on the nomination as well. Things have been quiet on my end I am kinda waiting to hit some shutdowns at the plant in the spring and make some OT$$. I wanna take the family back east to see the grandparents and stuff before I start to get too deep into the build. Those Stealths seem like a great deal. I would like to go with some ally heads as well but I may sink a little more into pistons, roller cam and intake/headers and upgrade the heads later. I'm thinking I can get close to 400HP with the 452's with a little home port work and a machine. Shouldn't spend more than $300 on them thou, Not including upgraded springs. What do you think you'll use for an intake and carb? I think for me I might go with a 600 CFM Edelbrock and dual plane performer intake. I don't want too radical of a cam so I thinkin that might be enough. Keep me posted. Joe

I hope all is going well, no news is good news. Thats great if you don't have to do all that machine work. Lookin forward to some pics. What was the stock hp on your 440? let me know what you are adding for upgrades. I located a balancer to go with my crank. No luck on a car yet but there seems to be lots out there. I really like challangers and Barracudas, what year is yours?? Joe

My crank bolt head was 1.22 inches. So I guess 1-1/4 is right. 1/32 felt like more play than it really is I guess. There is alot of torque on that one. Use a breaker and snipe if you got one. Cheers,

1-1/4 for the crank but it seemed a bit sloppy. I'll put the vernier on the bolt head tonight and let you know what it is exactly. I like the book other than those couple of errors. I will be taking my block in soon as well. I think I'm going to use my 452's for a while so I need to disassemble them next. The Scamp sold today so back to the drawing board on a vehicle. Oh well, it was probably for the better anyways, as I've got a couple of other financial obligations that I want to take care of first. Wasn't too cracked about the vinyl on the roof either. Is your engine out of the vehicle yet? Let me know how the tear down goes, and don't forget to soak your bolts. Lol.

    Hi Joe,

How are things? I've recently found an A body for my BB and I've got myself a steel crank on the weekend for $200. The car is a 74' Scamp. Should be a challenge getting that in there. The are some good after market kits that will help with that though. Doesn't seem like I'll have to do much cutting. I wanted to point out a couple of mistakes in the Don Taylor book seeing as you are using that one as well. The crank journal size isn't 2.38" but actually 2.375", the other thing I noticed was the rear seal retainer bolt size is 3/8" 12 point, not 7/16" as the book says. Any developments on your end? Cheers, and Happy New Year!

Joe, I have the same book, this is my first engine build and am excited about it. I will do the same, yes that is my Chally as they call it here. My plan is to make it a clone of the 70 RT in Vanishing Point. That will be some work with the minor changes from the 73 to 70. This one is solid, has great quarters and frame rails are solid. I don't see structure rust damage, so most will be minor fixes. I will take a serious amount of photos also. I will keep in touch thanks .

Thanks, yes that is from Box Wrench, I found their video very informative. I also picked up a book by Don Taylor on rebuilding BB Mopars. . It has also proved to be a valuable resource as it has id numbers and is specific to the 440. I will keep in touch and post updates as I go. I am green with muscle car engines but already it is alot simpler than the fuel injected stuff that I've managed to fix. Is that your Challanger in your pic?? Its a beauty! I'm hoping to find something like that myself to put mine in. Good luck and thanks for the encouraging words.

    Cheers,

    Joe Welder
