My ghettofix for a rubbing header

I have Hooker Comps on my '69 RR and the passenger side collector flange has been rubbing on the torsion bar, making a blasted racket every time I stop at a light

After pondering for a bit, I asked myself, What would MacGyver do?

Duct tape surely wouldn't do, so I cut a few pieces of chain link and tied them together using a leftover turnbuckle from my Land Cruiser.

It might look funny, but works great

No rattles or bangning

She feels like a new car!!

Couldnt you just loosen and turn the collector??? If not than. Nobody will see the chain so if it works its all good...Bill

Nope, the flange is part of the header.

Also, the chain isn't visible sitting on the ground and the oil pan actually hangs lower

Only problem there is that you are now putting a strain on the header pipes and hearer flange (head side). It might not cause a problem, or it might - as in header leaks.

I would have just ground down the corner of the collector flange.

Grinding wouldn't have worked as I would've had to remove A LOT of material.

That being said, there isn't much tension on the chain.

There was enough play on the collectors to pull down by hand and give the clearance I needed, but there was no way to actually hold it down until I bolted up the chains.

Time for the gas wrenches LOl.. I hear alot of noises that drive her nuts..But when we build these engines to rock & roll you have to live with some of the noise. Like tires screatching, loud exhaust, just the whole shaking of the car and thumping. This is all from my wifes perspective of coarse... I do Have a rattle in the driver door that needs to be fixed. A rubber stop missing when the window is down...Bill
