Hi, this is my first post on this forum. I just came into possession of a 1970 Chrysler Newport. Its been kept in great condition with 66K original miles, very little rust and the engine still runs.
I'm planning on getting it back to my place and doing a thorough tune up / inspection. On my list is swapping out / flushing all of the fluids (Coolant, Oil, Gas, Brake Fluid, differentials, etc...).

Beyond these basics, is there anything that I should pay extra close attention to? I've been down this road before but not with this type of car so I would appreciate any advice that you folks may be able to provide. This particular model is the 4 door hard top, 383 v-8 2bbl.

I'm also looking for any recommendations for a service or repair manual for this car. I've always grabbed a Haynes manual for everything I buy just as a easy reference guide. I can't find much in this department. So far the best I've found in the factory service manual on CD.

Can't beat the factory service manual. And swap the brake hoses, (unless it's already been done) because they're going to try and kill you. Welcome to our forum.

I bought a '68 Fury III about 5 yrs ago that had 90k miles on it and had been taken care of...
You will need fresh tires. Tires age and even though they look good, they can come apart. I lost 2.
My 383 ran great but, would smoke (black) out of the exhaust upon deceleration. I did some research and was advised that the 'umbrella seals' for the valves had hardened from non-use. I was going to have them replaced and was advised to "Just drive it and see what happens, as it may fix itself". That was 5 yrs ago and the car quit smoking after a couple of hundred miles back then.

There are a lot of knowledgable C Body guys on those sites. You are headed in the right direction, though. Obtaining the FSM should always be the first order of business when acquiring a new project. Good luck!

Mr.4 speed is right there is NO better service manual than the chrysler factory. my dad all ways bought a new one with each new mopar. i think i have 15-20 of them.. and one for a 1957 chrysler new yorker the 392 HEMI engine. and one for a 66 charger with the charger supplement.
