73' Challenger Rear Shocks, HELP!!!!!

Okay long story short, I just bought a 73 Challenger with little knowledge of what was done to the car, now I am attempting to change the rear shocks but the ones that I bought only style available for a 70-74 Challenger, and the lower shock mount is too big to fit into the lower part of the shock. The old shocks don't have the metal sleeve inside of the rubber bushing on the bottom, so I started there and replicated the process on the new shocks and it just made the hole smaller. Any ideas?
