My new duster....What does it all mean?
I just got a '72 duster that my dad found for me. I currently own a '52 chevy sport coupe custom and sold my '71 Dodge Coronet w/ 383. I do not have a ton of experience with Engine work but look forward to messing around and making my Duster go FAST!!!!
Not sure if all this is correct but this is what I'm working with: Engine: 440 cubic inch Block Year: 1970 or 1971 cop car Bored .30 over Heads: stock Pistons: 40 over 9.7:1? Cam: DC cam purple shaft 509 lift 292 duration ? Lifters: DC lifters (crane ) Rockers:Crane Gold Race Pro Series Shaft Mount Rocker Arm(Crane #270-64792-1) 25 hp increase Push Rods: Summers Brothers (solid chrome molly) Crank: 6 pack balanced Headers: Schumacher headers Chrome Exhaust: 2 ½” exhaust with Flow masters Air cleaner:Holley Hi-Tek Twin Sidedraft Air Cleaner (Holley 64280) Intake: Edelbrock performer RPM 440 Fuel Pump: Carter Super street mechanical fuel pump (120 GPH) Carbuerator: 750 cfm CARTER Mounts: Schumacher mounts Bracing: torque strap Oil pump: Hemi oil pump. Transmission: 727 Torque flight transmission form ’69 roadrunner auto Rearend: 8 ¾ posi with 323 gears Suspension: Torsion Bars: Mancini Racing .890” torsion bars Rims: Centerline Drags 15x5 front and 15x 8.5 rear I wanted to try to get an estimated Horsepower output and Cubic Inch calculation. How do I do this calculation and can someone explain to me Duration/Lift and what that does. The Car will be shipped out to me at the end of this month to Hawaii from Washington. I look forward to learning alot from all of you Mopar Knowledge Banks! |

Hello there out on the Island.
You'll need to get the machine on a dyno. To quantify the horsepower from a list of parts would be nothing more than an approximate guess. On the dyno's where you'll see the rear wheel output and should help you fine tune things if needed. Duration and Lift? Duration? How long the valve stays open based on the broadness of the cam lobe. Lift? The height of the lobe on the cam determines how far the valve opens. This affects the amount of fuel/air mixture based on the size of the opening and how long the valve stays open. There's a lot of other factors to be considered but these envolve the cam. Then there's also overlap and scavenging, packing more in the intake based on the length and design of the exhaust system. Good luck with your car - welcome back to the mopar pack. Last edited by Mopar Guy in Delaware : 04-10-2008 at 12:04 AM. |
