Hi Everyone
Name is Frank. I just very recently bought a 68 Fury 3 after being totally out of this for almost 25 years. I got what I believe to be a decent buy. Now it is time to start on it. It currently has a 318 -2bbl that smokes a bit when it starts but thats opk cause I want to upgrade it anyway. I have found a bracket motor 318 with about 40 passes on it. Just not sure if that is the route I wish to go or just do a 360 with cam and 4bbl. The bracket motor is 345 in the hp department and owner lists these items about it.

main studs, head studs, steel crank, mopar rods, mopar 1.6 roller rockers, mopar 563 soild cam, dual roller time chain, victor 340 single plain intake, kb 399 pistons , 1967 318 heads with 1.88-1.6 valves ported, motor has bimg balance,

I am not a motor guy but there it is. Future plans are new engine, front disk brakes, All new 4 bucket seat interior and new 2 tone paint. Not sure on colors yet. So I guess what I am looking for is some helpful knowledge about where to go with engine. Just want a real nice cruiser. Thanx Frank

Welcome Frank!

If you just want a fun and reliable motor, I'd look around for a 360 and install some mild performance parts, but that is just my opinion.

Thank You for the warm welcome. I do have a few pics and I will try to post one. The car will strictly a cruiser. No racing ... those days are way long gone. I am very sure I don't want anything to radical. I have been reading up on the Magnum 360's but not sure which way to go yet. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. As stated before it has been along time doing anything like this for us.

welcome and that is a great looking car, I would stay away from the bracket motor it sound a little to radical for the street if all you want to do is cruise, a 360 is all you will need

Welcome to the forum. I agree with 62Furious. Bracket motor will not make a good street engine.. Unless you are into street racing which we all know is a NO-NO.... If it just smokes when you start it that sounds like valve guides. Maybe just install them in the current engine and save your money for that new power plant you are already talking about... Just my $0.02.....

fury update

Well today was the day to get in garage to see what we got. Day started off interesting by running out of gas on the way. LOL Thank You AAA. Got there and put up on lift. Underside is very solid. Car ran very well when it had gas in it. We decided to rebuild the 318 and take it up to about 300 to 325 horses. Tranny is coming out also for rebuild. While all is out everything will be steamed including frame. We laid all the plans out on paper and will be started this week. Thanx Frank

update today

Hi all
I have been learning things here as I have been reading but today now has thrown a curve at us. Although I think it may be a good curve. I was offered a 360 in extremely good shape and the price is right. We still will have an engine builder look at everything to be sure. My question is what all must we do to convert it over. The 318 is a 68 and the 360 we are told is a 74 . I read something about balance and oil pan maybe. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx Frank

What did the 360 come out of? I had another 383 '68 Fury that I put a '69 383 Magnum from a Charger into. Everything worked.... except the Charger oil pan.
Put the original pan back on and all was good.

I don't know much about 360s so, can't help you with the balancing part.

One of the things with the 360 is it is externally balanced, [ larger harmonic balance r ] 318 is internally balanced, as long as you have the pulleys and alternator brackets all's good, every thing should bolt up

Hi All.. quick update on the Fury. It is getting freshly built 360 with Edelbrock intake and new holley 4 BBL. It got a new gas tank, all new fuel and brake lines, all new suspension including new shocks. It has been lowered 2 inches front and rear. Is being converted to electronic ignition also. The engine comes back Monday and the rebuilt tranny will be in also on Monday. Merry Christmas to us. LOL Just started searching for the new 4 buckets for the interior. I guess that will be next. Hope everyone has a great holiday. Frank
