Hello, I own a 1986 Dodge Ram D150 with a slant 6.
Because of military injuries my truck has been sitting for the past 3 years.
I am finally able to drive it again but I would like to fix this up a little before putting it back on the road.
I am not certain what color to paint the truck currently it is white with a maroon dash and white metal inside the cab.
I did find a set of rims and tires that I plan to order from tirerack.com.
I will be installing 16 inch rims in place of the 15 inch ones that are currently rusting away.
For some reason I had a very hard time finding rims to fit this truck.
I am looking for suggestions on what I should do to the truck, so if you have any suggestions please let me know.
Thanks Bill

Suggestions are like...
you get the idea
As for what I would do with it...
Depending on your states emission control laws, I'd either go 440/727, or 5.9 magnum/A518 with full blown Fuel Injection. Either way, you will have PLEANTY of power.
What do YOU want out of the truck is the MOST important thing tho...

Welcome from Canada.
Regarding any improvements a pencil and paper with your goals is the best place to start. If your looking at towing or more power don't overlook the rear axle. It most likely has an 8 1/4" (10 bolt cover) which are weak, if 9 1/4" (12 bolt cover, like a stop sign) you can feel better. Gear ratio would be good to find out when you start planning too.

My goals for the truck is to keep it street legal.
With all the injuries I have from the military I am not able to use a clutch or to race (Wish I could I used to love the track).
Once I get the new tires on I plan to have the engine checked out.
I am really hopping that it is still good on the pressure
This engine has about 40,000 - 45,000 miles since the last owner had it rebuilt.
I would like to work on improving the suspension and possibly replacing the rear-end.
Being disabled the money is tight but I do have about a grand to start the work then I will have to do a little each month after that is spent.
And since I am not able to do most of the work myself this is going to cost quite a lot.
I was thinking of a color to paint the truck, the inside is maroon so I was thinking about a blackish red for both the inside and out.
The new wheels I purchased for the truck are black and chrome.
I found these at www.tirerack.com they are some of the cheaper wheels but they look good and they are a lot better then the rusted white wheels that is on the truck now.
I will be getting rid of the topper and replace that with a hard cover over the bed area.
I will also have the bench seat redone along with new carpet.
