Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By David Gerard

NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.191/295.46, Now #1
Right Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 4.829/172.32, Now #2

6:04 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 47 percent, barometer 29.09 inches, adjusted altitude 3,167 feet, track temperature 118 degrees.

Just like the good ol' days! Two BUG's [Back Up Girl's} directing the cars back from their burnouts. Schriefer was supposed to be the first car out on a single, but decided to wait until later.

Both cars leave well and run together until near mid-track, where Diehl kicked the tires and slowed.

Bode's Impala started to drift towards the wall down track and it likely cost him some ET, but its a great pass anyway.

That's a new track speed record!

Bob Bode's incremental times: 60ft-0.901 sec., 330ft-2.353, 660ft-3.366/253.56 mph.
Jeff Diehl's incremental times: 60ft-0.929 sec., 330ft-2.412, 660ft-3.547/194.69 mph.

Right Lane: Jim Head No Time, Now #3

Lee will not make this session, so Head gets a single.

It's a good thing too, as Head's Solara leave hard with a 0.941 and immediately starts to smoke the tires big time. He may have stayed with it a little too long, as the car moved hard across the centerline. He fought it several times and the rear quarter panel just banged the left guardrail and bent up the headers. He had slowed a lot by that point, but will still have a patch job to do back in the pits before the next session later tonight. Ouch!

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.568/186.87, Now #3
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.233/291.95, Now #2

The two cars left together and ran side by side until right after mid-track, where Pedregon started to smoke the tires.

Arend makes a strong finish and slides in behind Bode in the #2 spot on the ladder

Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.899 sec., 330ft-2.335, 660ft-3.396/216.51 mph.
Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.379, 660ft-3.400/251.53 mph.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.517/205.69, Now #4
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.271/284.45, Now #3

In almost a repeat of the prior pair, Pedregon has to lift, but earlier in the run.

Wilkerson gets to the finish line under power and moves into the current #3 spot.

Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.923 sec., 330ft-2.391, 660ft-3.444/234.00 mph.
Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.927 sec., 330ft-2.401, 660ft-3.423/249.90 mph.

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.254/292.84, Now #3
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.272/287.60, Now #5

Capps has a new co-crew chief this weekend, as John Medlen moves from the Diehard Team to the Napa Team.

Both cars get down the track without drama. Worsham has better numbers down low and they match each others 330 times.

Worsham pull slowly ahead from there to the finish and captures the new #3 spot. Capps will get #5. Nice looking runs.

Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.921 sec., 330ft-2.385, 660ft-3.420/249.12 mph.
Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.924 sec., 330ft-2.385, 660ft-3.425/246.03 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III No Time, Now #11
Right Lane: Ashley Force Hood Runs 4.177/290.07, Now #1

Two Boss 500 Mustangs come to the line.

Tasca's car sounds terrible trying to come into the beams and he is given the classic cut throat gesture. He clicks it off.

Force-Hood starts her pass with a strong 0.895 sixty foot time and powers on down the track into the new top spot, pushing Bode to number two. Nice!

Ashley Force Hood's incremental times: 60ft-0.895 sec., 330ft-2.330, 660ft-3.340/251.67 mph.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.229/294.05, Now #4
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.169/294.43, Now #1

Two Chargers this time.

Looks like the crew chief shuffle didn't impact the Diehard Team, as Hagan thunders down the track into the new top spot.

Nice clean pass for Beckman too and he takes the new #4 spot.

Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.374, 660ft-3.397/250.46 mph.
Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.904 sec., 330ft-2.341, 660ft-3.342/254.95 mph.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.181/296.89, Now #3
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.256/291.89, Now #8

Team Force will finish up the round.

Almost identical RT's for the two Mustangs and Hight marches down the track to recapture his track MPH record on a strong pass into the final #3 position for the round.

Force chased him to the finish line and will be the #8 qualifier going into tonight's second round.

Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.904 sec., 330ft-2.357, 660ft-3.362/256.26 mph.
John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.922 sec., 330ft-2.396, 660ft-3.419/249.76 mph.

6:33 p.m. Matt Hagan is number one with a 4.169 and Cruz Pedregon is on the bump spot at 4.568.

Round 2 Qualifying

Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2
By David Gerard

NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Justin Schriefer Runs 12.690/62.66, Now #15; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.124/300.26, Now #1; No Prior Run

10:14 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 47 percent, barometer 29.06 inches, adjusted altitude 2,679 feet, track temperature 90 degrees.

Neither car made a pass in the first session. Cruz Pedregon is on the bump spot at 4.568.

Schriefer is up in smoke at the hit and clicks it early.

Lee lays down a terrific run with Dunn's first 300 MPH pass. He goes into the current #1 spot and takes over the track MPH record. That's not likely to last for long.

Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.911 sec., 330ft-2.336, 660ft-3.316/261.88 mph.

Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 10.199/75.22, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.110/304.46, Now #1; No Prior Run

Heads first pass was DQ'ed, when he clipped the wall and Tasca's Mustang broke a push rod on the burnout and was shut off.

Back to back low ET's and track MPH records, with a clean pass for Tasca this time from start to finish.

Head's Solara is up in smoke at the hit.

Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.905 sec., 330ft-2.327, 660ft-3.308/261.52 mph.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.069/306.40, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.272/287.60, Was #12
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.396/208.07, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.568/186.87, Was #14

Ron Capps is on the bump spot at 4.272, but not for long. The NAPA Charger moved hard at the green with a strong 0.896 sixty foot time and just thundered down the track to leapfrog the field and take the new number one position and track ET and MPH records.

Pedregon was on a good pass until after the 660 foot lights, where the flames dropped and the car slowed. His problems continue, as the car stops and is locked up on the track near the top end.

Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.896 sec., 330ft-2.308, 660ft-3.274/264.91 mph.
Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.900 sec., 330ft-2.306, 660ft-3.326/233.48 mph.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.135/293.28, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.271/284.45, Was #12
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.140/297.16, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.517/205.69, Was #14

10:27 p.m. Tim Wilkerson is on the bump spot this time at 4.271.

...and the hits keep coming, as both cars make major moves up the ladder on a pair of clean and straight passes into the near the top of the field. Neat!

Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.900 sec., 330ft-2.324, 660ft-3.310/257.19 mph.
Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.910 sec., 330ft-2.333, 660ft-3.324/258.32 mph.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 6.132/108.30, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.256/291.89, Was #13
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.087/313.15, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.254/292.84, Was #12

Del Worsham is on the bump spot at 4.254. If the pattern holds we will have two more cars in the teens.

Force is away first and then starts to have traction problems before the 330 light and slows.

Worsham has the big McCullough/AJ power and runs a huge MPH to take over the current #2 spot. He will take over the track MPH record too.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.400, 660ft-4.106/124.96 mph.
Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.917 sec., 330ft-2.339, 660ft-3.305/266.64 mph.

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 5.537/127.49, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.233/291.95, Was #12
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.060/310.27, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.229/294.05, Was #11

In the fourth pair in a row, Jeff Arend is on the bump spot at 4.233.

Fast Jack makes a huge run to bump his teammate down by 0.009 seconds. An almost flawless pass.

Arend was right behind him until near the 660 lights, where he loses traction and slows. That sets the bump for tonight.

Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-0.904 sec., 330ft-2.378, 660ft-3.831/147.94 mph.
Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.893 sec., 330ft-2.300, 660ft-3.271/263.72 mph.

Left Lane: Ashley Force Hood Runs 4.032/311.99, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.177/290.07, Was #9
Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.235/273.39, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.191/295.46, Was #11

That pass by Force-Hood, puts a nail in the rest of the field with only two cars to go. She sets a new personal best, track ET record, and the new #1 spot on rhe ladder

Bode is no match and slows on the top end to stay #11

Ashley Force Hood's incremental times: 60ft-0.883 sec., 330ft-2.284, 660ft-3.247/266.42 mph.
Bob Bode's incremental times: 60ft-0.922 sec., 330ft-2.410, 660ft-3.395/257.48 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.043/307.09, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.043/307.09, Was #2
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.067/310.05, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.067/310.05, Was #4

A great final pair with flames over the tops of the roofs of both cars and clean and straight passes a pair.

Hight gets a small lead off the line, buy Hagen has all of the numbers from there on down the track. He takes over the #2 spot and Hight end up #4

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.880 sec., 330ft-2.294, 660ft-3.253/267.11 mph.
Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.893 sec., 330ft-2.311, 660ft-3.280/265.90 mph.

10:44 p.m. Ashley Force-Hood is #1 at 4.032 and Jeff Arend is on the bump spot at 4.233.

Round 3 Qualifying

Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #3
By David Gerard

NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Right Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 4.206/298.67, Now #15; No Prior Run

1:12 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 57 percent, barometer 28.96 inches, adjusted altitude 3,302 feet, track temperature 108 degrees.

We have had some good qualifying sessions so far, but the weather is changing the track conditions. Force-Hood is #1 at 4.032 and we start filling in from 13 to 16 on the FC ladder.

Wow! What a great looking pass for Diehl on a single. He gets past all of his prior problems and runs straight and true to the finish line. That's a career best speed and almost ET too.

Jeff Diehl's incremental times: 60ft-0.916 sec., 330ft-2.391, 660ft-3.393/257.33 mph.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 5.509/128.02, Now #15; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Justin Schriefer Runs 5.160/180.07, Now #14; No Prior Run

Both cars leave together and then have problems between the 330 lights and 660 lights. Pedregon is first to have the back end step out and he lifts.

Schriefer has the chutes come out way early and it sounded like he was on and off the throttle to near the finish line.

Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.908 sec., 330ft-2.355, 660ft-3.799/147.62 mph.
Justin Schriefer's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.594, 660ft-3.839/174.77 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.142/293.60, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.191/295.46, Was #11
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 5.288/139.59, Now #15; No Prior Run

Head had a scary run yesterday, just clipping the wall, and has patched up his Solara.

Bode keeps improving the tune up and runs close to his career best ET, but stays #11.

Heads car moves hard towards the wall again and he just misses it this time. He finally gets a time and the #15 position on the ladder.

Bob Bode's incremental times: 60ft-0.888 sec., 330ft-2.324, 660ft-3.322/257.09 mph.
Jim Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.889 sec., 330ft-2.360, 660ft-3.715/159.10 mph.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 6.922/96.11, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.140/297.16, Was #10
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.861/190.08, Now #14; No Prior Run

Force will be last car to attempt to get into the field in this session. Whoa! Talk about using all of the track to get to the finish line and into the field! Force's car loses traction after the 330 lights and he pumps and stabs the throttle again and again trying to get the car to settle down. The Mustang goes from center line to wall and back again before getting to the finish line. He will get into the field in the #14 spot.

Pedregon is up in smoke before the 330 and wisely clicks it off to stay #10.

Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.917 sec., 330ft-2.574, 660ft-4.584/105.89 mph.
John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.910 sec., 330ft-2.386, 660ft-3.629/193.02 mph.

Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 7.384/91.56, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.233/291.95, Was #13

Jim Head is on the bump spot at 5.288.

Arend on a single, strikes the tires early and lifts. No drama here!

Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-0.901 sec., 330ft-2.631, 660ft-4.833/096.89 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.989/154.53, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.110/304.46, Was #7
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 6.037/112.49, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.135/293.28, Was #9

Both cars leave hard and hit the "smoke the tires at the 330" wall together. They both lift and coast on down the track to stay #7 and #9 for now.

Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.894 sec., 330ft-2.329, 660ft-3.565/176.37 mph.
Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.925 sec., 330ft-2.438, 660ft-4.086/129.34 mph.

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.197/293.47, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.087/313.15, Was #6
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 6.618/98.09, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.069/306.40, Was #5

Worsham can't improve, but makes a clean pass through the lights and gets some tune up information for tomorrow's eliminations. He'll stay #6.

Capps kicks the tires near the 330 lights and slows.

Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.910 sec., 330ft-2.370, 660ft-3.375/256.50 mph.
Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.918 sec., 330ft-2.494, 660ft-4.365/113.41 mph.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.829/167.16, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.067/310.05, Was #4
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 5.445/132.75, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.043/307.09, Was #2

Dueling tire smoke. The dreaded 330 shake and spin catches both cars and they have to lift.

Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.902 sec., 330ft-2.345, 660ft-3.510/189.52 mph.
Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.902 sec., 330ft-2.366, 660ft-3.786/151.14 mph.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.204/291.38, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.060/310.27, Was #3
Right Lane: Ashley Force Hood Runs 4.185/298.07, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.032/311.99, Was #1

Last two cars of the session. The sun has come out and really created problems for almost all of the Funny Cars in this session.

No problems for these two. They leave together and run side by side from start to finish, with Force-Hood recording just a little better incrementals. They will keep their current #1 and #3 positions.

Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.918 sec., 330ft-2.369, 660ft-3.375/254.42 mph.
Ashley Force Hood's incremental times: 60ft-0.911 sec., 330ft-2.366, 660ft-3.369/256.99 mph.

1:47 p.m. Jim Head is on the bump spot at 5.288.

Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session
By David Gerard

NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.222/289.51, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.288/139.59, Was #16

5:27 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 54 percent, barometer 28.89 inches, adjusted altitude 3,706 feet, track temperature 126 degrees.

Jim Head is on the bump spot at 5.288 and saves the best for last with a great pass for the conditions into the #13 position on the ladder. Nicely done!

Jim Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.899 sec., 330ft-2.365, 660ft-3.386/250.88 mph.

Left Lane: Justin Schriefer Runs 4.565/226.43, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.160/180.07, Was #16
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.120/302.48, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.509/128.02, Was #17

Justin Schriefer is now on the bump spot at 5.160 and Pedregon is the only car that can dump him.

...and he does so with a terrific pass into the top half of the field. The team makes the necessary changes and it pays off big time.

Schriefer run looked tame by comparison, but he improves enough to bump back in and push John Force to #17. He did all he could to stay in.

Justin Schriefer's incremental times: 60ft-0.992 sec., 330ft-2.530, 660ft-3.597/236.75 mph.
Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.907 sec., 330ft-2.323, 660ft-3.313/259.01 mph.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.238/293.03, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.861/190.08, Was #17
Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 5.044/154.39, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.142/293.60, Was #12

Justin Schriefer is on the bump spot at 4.565 and then Team Force finally gets a full pass to bump him out. Good looking pass.

Bode had similar times down low, but kicked the tires before the 660 lights and slows.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.907 sec., 330ft-2.375, 660ft-3.405/250.04 mph.
Bob Bode's incremental times: 60ft-0.908 sec., 330ft-2.369, 660ft-3.615/174.35 mph.

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 7.129/88.30, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.233/291.95, Was #15
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 8.119/91.74, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.140/297.16, Was #11

It all about jockeying for position on the ladder now.

Both cars leave hard and then shut off together near the 330 lights. Arend has much better numbers at the hit, but doesn't get any further than a struggling Pedregon.

They will both stay in their current positions for now.

Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-0.902 sec., 330ft-2.567, 660ft-4.628/102.58 mph.
Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.937 sec., 330ft-2.965, 660ft-5.569/086.97 mph.

5:39 p.m. Well, believe it or not, we are now in a rain delay. It just a light mist, but not safe to continue.

5:44 p.m. What was a sprinkle is now a driving rain. The fans are scrambling out of the stands and taking cover under the grand stands. The remaining Funny Car teams have covered the cars in the lanes and taken cover too.

6:19 p.m. Due to continuing showers, NHRA has cancelled the balance of the final session with ten cars yet to run.

Funny Car Round 1 Eliminations
By David Gerard

NORWALK, Ohio - Results of round 1 eliminations in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals:

Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed

7 Del Worsham (W) .........vs........6 Tony Pedregon
0.109 4.307 284.69 ..................0.078 4.582 213.81

11:30 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 62 percent, barometer 28.84 inches, adjusted altitude 3,951 feet, track temperature 114 degrees.

Pedregon was the runner up in 2007. Worsham has thirty seven losses to Pedregon to date.
Pedregon gets off the line first and swaps the lead until after the 330 lights. Both cars get in trouble after mid-track, with a puff of smoke from Pedregon and then Worsham's engine expires in a big flash of flame and smoke.
He has the momentum to stay in front for an easy, but expensive win. Looks like a bunch of "Stuff" in the left lane, near the finish line and turnout.
Del Worsham's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(0.006), 330 ft(-0.029), 660ft(0.052). MOV: 0.2443 seconds (approximately 77 feet).
Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.921 sec., 330ft-2.417, 660ft-3.455/246.98 mph.
Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.958 sec., 330ft-2.419, 660ft-3.538/218.37 mph
.
Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
5 Jack Beckman (W)...........vs.......388 Jim Head
0.064 4.373 238.17 ......................0.073 4.961 170.62
11:46 a.m. Beckman was the winner last year. Jim Head is making his three hundred and sixty fifth start this weekend.

Beckman is 6 - 1 against Head in prior events.
Beckman gets a small lead off the line and stretches his margin. Heads tires give up near the 660 and he begins to slow.
Beckman's car drops a cylinder and it pushes the Charger hard towards the center line and he has to lift to stay in his own lane.
Worsham will have lane choice in round two.
Jack Beckman's incremental margins: 60ft(0.032), 330 ft(0.038), 660ft(0.232). MOV: 0.5974 seconds (more than 100 feet).
Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.935 sec., 330ft-2.411, 660ft-3.447/246.75 mph.
Jim Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.958 sec., 330ft-2.440, 660ft-3.670/188.36 mph.

Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed

2 Ashley Force Hood ........vs...........9 John Force (W)
0.110 4.445 224.81..................0.113 4.212 297.35

This is Force-Hood's twelfth time to qualify #1, now two straight. For only the third time in Force's long career, he has qualified in the sixteenth position on the ladder. The last time was Gainesville 1982.

Force Hood and Force have each won 5 times against the other in prior events. They leave together and Ashley begins to pull ahead until near the 660 foot lights, where the Mustang drops some cylinders and the car moves hard towards the wall.
John Force keeps it in the middle of the lane and takes a big win.
John Force's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.024), 330 ft(-0.051), 660ft(0.016). MOV: 0.2302 seconds (approximately 76 feet).
Ashley Force Hood's incremental times: 60ft-0.903 sec., 330ft-2.337, 660ft-3.412/214.89 mph.
John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.924 sec., 330ft-2.385, 660ft-3.393/255.48 mph.

Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
1 Robert Hight (W).............vs............719 Jeff Diehl E1
0.117 4.173 295.34 ..........................0.122 6.247 115.67

Hight was runner up here in 2008. This is Diehl's seventh start in Funny Car and his best qualifying position.

This is the first time Hight and Diehl have faced each other in eliminations.
It's all Hight, all the time, as he gets a small lead in RT and pulls steadily ahead to the finish line. Strong pass for the conditions.
Diehl smokes the tires before the 660 lights and slows.
Robert Hight's incremental margins: 60ft(0.027), 330 ft(0.170), 660ft(0.940). MOV: 2.0797 seconds (more than 100 feet).
Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.897 sec., 330ft-2.346, 660ft-3.352/255.29 mph.
Jeff Diehl's incremental times: 60ft-0.919 sec., 330ft-2.511, 660ft-4.287/122.47 mph.

Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed

28 Ron Capps (W).............vs.................340 Bob Bode
0.098 4.333 273.66 ............................0.115 4.578 211.20

Capps is 3 - 0 against Bode in prior events.

Capps has the advantage off the line and then has a repeat of Beckman's fun near the lights.
Bode was already done, as he kicks the tires early and has the car make a move towards the center line.
Hight will have lane choice in the next round.
Ron Capps' incremental margins: 60ft(0.010), 330 ft(0.026), 660ft(0.052). MOV: 0.2625 seconds (approximately 81 feet).
Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.930 sec., 330ft-2.398, 660ft-3.451/240.08 mph.
Bob Bode's incremental times: 60ft-0.923 sec., 330ft-2.407, 660ft-3.486/221.89 mph.

Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed

2814 Matt Hagan ...........vs...............170 Jeff Arend (W)
0.076 4.753 236.05 ........................ 0.105 4.405 280.02

Hagan is 7 - 0 against Arend in prior events, but not this time.

Hagen gets a lead at the green and stays in front until after the 330 lights, where the slicks begin to smoke and drive the car towards the center line.
Arend gets to the finish line without drama for the easy win.
Jeff Arend's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.051), 330 ft(-0.041), 660ft(0.164). MOV: 0.3194 seconds (more than 100 feet).
Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.949 sec., 330ft-2.477, 660ft-3.734/204.70 mph.
Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-0.971 sec., 330ft-2.489, 660ft-3.541/242.84 mph.

Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed

8 Bob Tasca III ..........vs..........4 Tim Wilkerson (W)
0.093 4.844 173.87..................... 0.077 4.208 297.61

Wilkerson is 7 - 3 against Tasca III in prior events. Tasca was runner up here in 2009.

Wilkerson dominates this race with a big lead off the line and domination of his "sort of" team mate. Tasca's Mustang is done before the 660 lights, as the tires go up in smoke.
Wilkerson has lane choice over Arend later today.
Tim Wilkerson's incremental margins: 60ft(0.046), 330 ft(0.064), 660ft(0.204). MOV: 0.6521 seconds (more than 100 feet).
Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.951 sec., 330ft-2.428, 660ft-3.576/197.59 mph.
Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.921 sec., 330ft-2.380, 660ft-3.388/255.29 mph.

Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed

116 Paul Lee (W) .......vs.........71 Cruz Pedregon
0.059 4.450 221.16 ....................0.108 4.838 169.49

Paul Lee is the eighty-first competitor that Pedregon has faced. This is the first time Lee and Pedregon have faced each other in eliminations.

Lee gets the advantage off the line and then has Pedregon pull up by the 330 lights.
Both cars have problems near the 660 lights, but Lee gets the momentum back and runs ahead to the finish line. Pedregon smoked the tires and couldn't recover.
Lee gives up lane choice to Force in round two.
Paul Lee's incremental margins: 60ft(0.065), 330 ft(0.039), 660ft(0.160). MOV: 0.4371 seconds (more than 100 feet).
Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.931 sec., 330ft-2.386, 660ft-3.429/240.98 mph.
Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.947 sec., 330ft-2.376, 660ft-3.540/194.24 mph.

Funny Car Round 2 Eliminations
By David Gerard

NORWALK, Ohio - Results of round 2 eliminations in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals:

Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed

7 Del Worsham (W)..........vs.........5 Jack Beckman
0.105 4.253 286.56 .....................0.079 4.327 277.49

1:19 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 87 degrees, relative humidity 62 percent, barometer 28.79 inches, adjusted altitude 4,217 feet, track temperature 117 degrees.

Beckman is 10 - 3 against Worsham in prior events.
Great drag race with Beckman out first and stays there until right before the 330 lights. Worsham's Solara gets by at hat point and stays there to the finish line.
Del Worsham's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.001), 330 ft(0.006), 660ft(0.025). MOV: 0.0484 seconds (approximately 20 feet).
Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.919 sec., 330ft-2.394, 660ft-3.416/251.81 mph.
Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.944 sec., 330ft-2.426, 660ft-3.467/246.44 mph.

Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed

9 John Force (W).......vs..........116 Paul Lee
0.109 4.265 290.26 .............0.102 6.567 88.26

Force is 1 - 0 against Lee in prior events.

Lee gets a small lead at the green, but is no match for Zippy's big Ford power. Force drives by after the sixty foot lights and takes the easy win, as Lee engine lets go after spinning the tires before the 660 lights.
We will get a brief delay to do just a little clean up down track.
John Force's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.007), 330 ft(0.088), 660ft(0.818). MOV: 2.2952 seconds (more than 100 feet).
John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.930 sec., 330ft-2.409, 660ft-3.434/252.52 mph.
Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.930 sec., 330ft-2.504, 660ft-4.259/121.56 mph.

Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed

4 Tim Wilkerson (W)........vs..............170 Jeff Arend
0.107 4.271 285.05 ......................0.099 4.567 205.98

Wilkerson is 6 - 2 against Arend in prior events.

Excellent run for Wilkerson, as he drives by Arend before sixty feet and is pulling away, when Arend's tires start to spin and smoke near the 660 lights.
He'll have to give lane choice to Worsham in round three.
Tim Wilkerson's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(0.011), 330 ft(0.017), 660ft(0.061). MOV: 0.2883 seconds (approximately 87 feet).
Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.919 sec., 330ft-2.389, 660ft-3.421/247.38 mph.
Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-0.938 sec., 330ft-2.414, 660ft-3.490/222.36 mph.

Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
1 Robert Hight (W)........vs.......28 Ron Capps
0.104 4.235 288.70 .....................0.096 4.277 277.43

1:34 p.m. Hight is 14 - 9 against Capps in prior events.

What a great race! Capps gets the advantage off the line and then has to watch the Mustang sneak on by. Capps's Charger catches back up at the 330 and briefly leads, before Hight gets back by to stay out in front.
Team Force will have a car in the final, with Hight having lane choice over Force next round.
Robert Hight's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(0.015), 330 ft(-0.005), 660ft(0.004). MOV: 0.0343 seconds (approximately 14 feet).
Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.909 sec., 330ft-2.378, 660ft-3.399/251.53 mph.

Funny Car Round 3 Eliminations
By David Gerard

NORWALK, Ohio - Results of round 3 eliminations in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals:

Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---

Speed 7 Del Worsham .........vs........4 Tim Wilkerson (W)
0.098 4.251 284.62 ........................ 0.059 4.277 283.73

2:49 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 87 degrees, relative humidity 66 percent, barometer 28.72 inches, adjusted altitude 4,314 feet, track temperature 128 degrees.

Worsham is 15 - 14 against Wilkerson in prior events.
The winner goes to the final round against one of the Team Force Funny Cars and it's going to be an all Ford finish.
Wilkerson gets a nice lead at the green and holds off a quicker Worsham to just stay in front by six feet in the lights.
Tim Wilkerson's incremental margins: 60ft(0.033), 330 ft(0.038), 660ft(0.026). MOV: 0.0132 seconds (approximately 6 feet).
Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.929 sec., 330ft-2.396, 660ft-3.413/253.47 mph.
Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.935 sec., 330ft-2.397, 660ft-3.426/248.11 mph.

Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
1 Robert Hight .............vs..............9 John Force (W)
1.257 4.564 196.10................ 0.094 4.249 288.77

Hight is 11 - 9 against Force in prior events. The last #16 qualifier to make it to the final round was Cruz Pedregon in 2006. Del Worsham just the one before that in 2003. Only twelve have made it in NHRA history and only four have won.

Ahhh, I have no idea what just happened. Height is sitting in the lights for over a second and a quarter before he leaves. There is a lot of discussion going on with the Auto Club team and the NHRA officials on the starting line on some perceived problems with the tree.
Force is on his game and flies on down the track for the free pass to the finals with a clean and straight run.
He'll have lane choice over Wilkerson in the final round.
Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.921 sec., 330ft-2.386, 660ft-3.440/222.77 mph.
John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.936 sec., 330ft-2.401, 660ft-3.415/253.75 mph.

Funny Car Final, Round 4 Eliminations

NORWALK, Ohio - Results of final, round 4 eliminations in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals:

Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed

9 John Force ..................vs.................4 Tim Wilkerson (W)
0.069 4.272 290.88.................... 0.077 4.191 300.40

3:58 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 88 degrees, relative humidity 56 percent, barometer 28.70 inches, adjusted altitude 4,269 feet, track temperature 119 degrees.

Force is 26 - 9 against Wilkerson in prior events and Force is 3 - 2 against Wilkerson in prior final rounds. He won against Wilkerson at Bristol earlier this year.

We have a all Ford Mustang final round. Team Wilkerson was just a little late getting the car into the water, but no problems.
They almost identical RT, with Force getting a small advantage that is gone before the sixty foot lights. He pulls steadily ahead to run the second quickest ET of the day.
This is Wilkerson's fifteenth career win and second this year.
Tim Wilkerson's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(0.006), 330 ft(0.044), 660ft(0.059). MOV: 0.0736 seconds (approximately 31 feet).
