BENT PUSH RODS
Hi, I have a 1967 Plymouth GTX 440. The engine is completely stock except for headers and a cam. I am having trouble with it lately. The push rods on one valve keep bending. There was a ticking sound coming from the rocker, and now that just stopped. When we put the new push rod in, we noticed the the engine was banging on one side. Once the lifter filled with oil again, the banging stopped. Then, I drove the car around the block. Came home, shut it off. A minute or so later, started the car, no oil pressure. This also happened last night on the highway near 5000 rpm, but we weren't doing that in the driveway. So, and help would be great.

I didn't replace the cam. When I got the car, I just had to put the heads and intake manifolds back on. I'm not sure what kind of cam it is, but it isn't an all-out racing one.

Ok, I know a lot of issues can occur with the lifters if they are not replaced, especially if the lobes are bigger in the newer cam. The lifter could also be bad, might want to take it apart and check to see if its good.

Definitely if you have it in the car, I put one in my 440 a couple months ago, but I had it out of the car anyways.
Still out of the car for that matter, but I can't help myself breaking bolts and delaying the install.

if a pushrod bends and allows a lifter to pop up or out of its bore, you will lose oil pressure. i think you have a cam that wasnt installed right or the timing chain a tooth or two off. this will cause your problem, it happened to me. you might have a piston to valve interference problem also.
