Engine paint questions
Redoing underhood on '70 Roadrunner 383..
Does anyone know what finish the factory actually used on engines? Trying to find out if was no-gloss, low-gloss, or high gloss. Seems like a lot of restos have a high gloss finish, but I thought I read somewhere that the factory used low-gloss?? I'm using the Dupli-color hemi orange 500 degree. Stripped valve covers down to bare metal, primed with the Duplicolor 500 degree gray prmer. The pic shows after 1 coat of the color, and it looks sort of low gloss. Don't know if a second coat will turn out more gloss. Duplicolor makes a 500 degree clear.... don't know if it's good to go that route for gloss. Plan to do same with intake, only pulled off intake, vc's, and exhaust manifolds, will paint engine in the car. While I'm at it.... if you look at the pic, on bb valve covers, does anyone know what was attached where the 3 broken tabs are? I'm assuming it was some sort of clip to hold the wiring harness to the alternator. If so, wonder what I can do here, instead of resorting to welding. Also, the plug wire holders, was there some type of plastic insert in these? the plug wire sits in them pretty loose. Thanks..... |
