Ummm no i cant explain it, and I am not for sure hyd fluid would work or give good service.... but i am no oil specialist, nor trans guy.... I would pull the stick and check it for color, MOST hyd fluids are clearish....

There are a bunch of different hydraulic fluids (different viscosities) out there so the PO would have to explain exactly which one he used. I have never heard about putting hydraulic fluid into an automatic.

Are you having any drivability issues with it? If so, then I would suggest pulling the tranny, tearing it all apart and cleaning everything. If no drivability issues, then take it to a good tranny shop and ask them to perform a tranny flush and have regular ATF put in.

A trans flush can sometimes do more harm than good. I would drop the pan and change the fluid AND the filter.

727 auto. I havent had any issues yet. Once it warms up it shifts great. I am though going to bring it to a specialist to flush and fill with the rite fluid!!!
Also do you guys know how I can go about on finding the previous owners of my dart?

Maybe the guy doesn't know what he's talking about. ATF IS A FORM of "hydraulic fluid."

What color is it? What does it smell like?

My former mentor still calls all automatics "hydromatics" and transmission fluid "hydraulic fluid".

I know there are additives and seal conditioners in all the different tranny fluids per application but man.... ATF4 is NOT cheap!!!! I wish they took hydraulic fluid.

sounds like its a old tranny and has wat we call hard seals the seals are hard and dont seal so the clutches dont have enough pressure a old trick was to put hydro fluid in the tranny its thicker viscosity was a way to prolong the inevitable.
