7-1/4 wimpy wimpy wimpy
8-3/4 HEFTY HEFTY HEFTY

look at the back, are there bolts - if bolts 7-1/4
if you are having trouble finding a reasonable 3/4 - look into the 8-1/4, they are plenty strong and relatively inexpensive to build up

My Dart had a 7 1/4 in it. Toss it.

You'll know the diff between a 7 1/4 and an 8 3/4. Like John basically said... an 8 3/4 will look WAY bigger.

An 8 3/4 is home in the a-bodys

Don't be afraid of a B body rear. Only about an inch longer.

Anything can be put in anything....BUT!...This is like the Chevy motor transplant discussed here a while back. Please keep your Mopar all Mopar. It will be easier, and worth more later.

how about a rearend out of a jeep?? not sure how wide they are but some of them look fairly narrow. Im sure some of them are 8 1/4 mopar rears .
The best part of using the jeep rear is that it has the same bolt pattern and the
"register" on the end of the axle is the same as the old mopar cars [with 4 1/2 bolt pattern]. {this is only advice if you change up to the larger 4 1/2 bolt patt. which is much stronger btw} AND

Most of the CJs came with AMC 20 rear axles that are a 2 piece shaft. there are kit out there that replace the shafts with a 1 piece. Otherwise you are looking at a dana 35 c-clip (some came non-c-clip) and dana 44 which is a semi floating. I'm not sure about the widths of them, but can find out easily enough if you want. If anything, I would cut down a D44 and have some shafts made up for it as parts are cheap and all over the place for them........ if you were to go that way. Plus with the tire size that are run on these cars, you wouldn't really have to worry about it breaking. (maybe i'll see about installing one in the Valiant now that we are talking about it)

If you want any info on jeep axles, ask away.
