Issues with rebuilt Carb...

So i just got my 1406 eddy carb back today and i slapped it on rather quickly. I first started it up and it was making a ticking noise, then I tighten the carb down and it went away. So then i took it for a cruise. I noticed it was idling very fast. I would let my foot off the gas and the car would pick up speed and get up to 35 mph WITHOUT my foot on the gas! Then I put the pedal down and the secondaries never went on. So it was very slow. The car ran fine before i had it rebuilt so its something with the carb. The car does however start up a lot better. I dont have to pump the gas at all like I did before

Heres my thoughts.
1.) I didnt hook up the carb linkages up right. I took pictures of how it was hooked up before it was rebuilt and tried to hook it up right but it doesnt seem like i did.

2.) The jets are unclogged after rebuild and its dumping way too much fuel in. (i dont think this is it but maybe)

Tomorrow ill play around with it. Ill set the idle mixture and idle speed. Ill check the timing and vacuum and see it adjusting that helps, but i have a feeling i hooked it up wrong.

Is there some trick that i missed? What does this sound like?

my guess is that you have a 2 bbl to 4 bbl conversion. your trouble started there. ill bet the pull cable is in a bind. must people dont know that the cables and other linkage is different for a 2 bbl than a 4 bbl. and to many people try to force 2 bbl stuff to work on a 4 bbl carb. all so an other common mistake is putting a square bore carb on a spread bore manifold with out the steel plate to bridge bore. your other troubles need lots of work. but that brand needs a little tinkering , but it can be made to work right, if it isnt broke. check out my posts on carbs to know what the edelbrok carbs need.

Check that you are getting full throttle & the trans kick down linkage is not binding. Make sure the vacuum advance is connected to ported vacuum

2 to 4 conversion? I had the 1406 eddy on my eddy streetmaster intake and it was working good, then i had the carb rebuilt and i put it on and it wasnt running well. Ill post pictures on tomorrow of the linkages. What is the pull cable? What is the trans kickdown linkage. Im pretty sure it is on the ported vacuum

Hmm, i was playing with it today and noticed that nothing is hitting the idle speed screw. I can pull it back and make it hit but there is some rubbing or something going on. Can anyone see something wrong with these pictures?

The linkage pulls at an angle-- Not good Are you still using the linkage from the two bbl. I would bet you are NOT getting full throdle You need the 4bbl linkage like used on a thermoquad as it locates the linkage further out. The green spring should hook up to the kick down The lever with the slot.. You have two springs operating in different directions, probably your idle problem. Before Edelbrock to over Carter made a carb specifically for Mopar

lynn is right the cable is pulling at an angle. cause it has the 2 bbl bracket, and some times the 2 bbl cable is to short. that will stop the plates from opening. all so it looks like you have some nuts in there that is NOT stock. all you have to do to get it to work right is make it STOCK. find some STOCK non modified engines and check them out. get a 2 bbl and 4 bbl with the stud for pulling. set the 2 bbl on top of the 4 bbl centered. then youll see the difference. STOCK, STOCK, STOCK, STOCK

FOR YOUR MOPAR YOU NEED AN ADAPTER FOR THE LINKAGE !!!!!! Edelbrock #8021
http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_.../general.shtml
also the 4 bbl linkage
This gets you the correct relationship between the throttle opening and the trans kickdown

I figured out the problem, the linkage for the secondaries was locked up. I freed it up and now she runs great. And for the non stock nuts. The ones that were previously on there were rusted on and stripped so I had to cut them off and get new ones. It works great now.

Glad that you got it working. but it is still not 100% right.. Pulling the throttle at an angle will cause premature wear in the carb
