I had a 67 dart gt whie ago, a 2 bbl. It ran really weak. Took my kids for a ride in it, they were used to the 6 pak cars we had. when we got back, My youngest said, is it broke dad, You werent going very fast? LOL. I sold the car to a guy and his kid put a 4bbl on it and a good intake and it still didnt run ver good, kept dying on him and acted starved for fuel. Come to find out the fuel sock on the end of the sending unit inlet deteriorated and plugged up the end. they cleaned it out, and took me for a ride in it. man that was the meanest running 273, I ever rode in. after the ride the guy and I were laughing, he told me when he bought it, i didnt know it but My littlest boy told him ,yeah, thats the slowest car my dad ever owned.

What caused it to be too far gone?

There is a D250 (truck) with a 360/727/D60 for $350 in Newport NH, only 54,000 miles. You could swap in the drivetrain and part out/scrap the rest.
