Starting problem? starter just spins.

my car has a new starter on it its the mini starter from 440 source that is good up to 16:1 compression i'm running only 9.5:1, When i start my car for some reason it does a little like hick-up if it turns over a couple times and doesnt start right away, it will turn over then act like it catches something and slows down then speeds up again making kinda a air sound, its always done that ever before i put the new engine in and even did it with the old starter.

Well today I went to burger king and went to start my car and the starter spun and spun but wouldnt start the car, i put the car into gear in drive and rolled the car, ( This is a push button style 1964 A727 ) Shouldnt you be not able to move the car when its IN gear? shouldnt it catch? i rolled it like 10 feet in gear with ease.... I tried pushing all the buttons thinking something was sticking and didnt do nothing so i cranked the starter then while it was spinning ( i didnt let it stop I know this is bad to do ) i cranked it a couple times and then it finally tried to start the car so i kept cranking it till it started, What can cause this is my transmission going out? I got home tried to start the car after i shut if off and the starter just spins again i just left it, so not i crank it all i want it wont turn the engine over just spins the starter?? Any ideas? sorry long post.

Trans it fine.....
You are having a start engagement problem... Recheck the connections.. If thats not it, Could be a defective starter.

When i bypass my alternator wires & that charging gauge to get my battery charging properly using that article you showed me, i'm going to replace the battery wire that goes to the starter ignition switch and all the way to the starter all at the same time i guess ill see after that too, its starting to look like all my problems are all linked together some how, i have less than 250 miles on that starter can they really go that fast? Also How can it still spin freely, but not turn the engine over? or is it spinning inside the starter but some how but not spinning the Teethed part that engages the torque converter?

Will talk alternator in the alternator tread...

Starter Solenoid needs to have enough power to pull the bendix into the ring gear.... other than that it can just spin away.... Unless it developed a mechanical issue inside the starter motor.

Bendix in starter could be stuck, tap on the starter with a wrench or hammer.. See if it works

Could also be that the clutch in the starter is bad..
