My Aussie Mopars.
Hi guys...heres my current collection of Mopars.
1978 Drifter Charger.
I bought this from a farmer after I discovered it in a collapsing barn in central New South Wales, Australia. It had been parked there for over 15 years and despite never being started in that time once i changed the oil, petrol and battery it started with first twist of the key.
This car is one of 29 produced V8 Drifter Chargers...only seven of which came in this colour. The Drifter Charger was a special edition using up the last of the Charger body shells in 1978 signalling the end of Chrysler Australia's production of muscle cars. They came with bold stripping, very loud 70's interiors, four speed manual floor shift, 318's, W35 alloy wheels and uprated suspension and sway bars. My car has only 79000 km's on the clock and is still the same as the day I found it. The car is awaiting restoration but luckily as the area I found it is so dry the car has no rust and just needs paint and interior work. The motor runs like new.
1977 Chrysler Sportsvan.
Only 1900 Panel vans were made by Chrysler Aus and this is my Chrysler Sportsvan. All factory original V8 four speed manual. The Sportvans were optioned with Charger bucket seats, floor shifters, steering wheels, dash clusters and alloy wheels. I have nearly finished the restoration of my van and just need to apply the finishing touches. Car has been repainted in Impact Orange and factory stripping has been painted on. These were originally a sticker and had come off over the years.
1976 VK Dodge ute.
My workhorse...throw dogs in the back....rough and ready. 265 Hemi, three speed coloumn manual.
1966 Valiant VC V8.
This car was left to me in a sorry state by a mate that was leaving the country. It was an original VC V8 (that's their title) but my mate had grand plans of rodding it and pulled it's 273 Commando, stripped it's paint....and that's where he left it......
I got the car and fitted a very warm 318 Fireball, LSD, disc brakes, finished all the panel work and painted it in Burgandy Metalic with metal flake and strip signage. Car is awaiting finishing touches. Just bought some Cragar SS rims for her and plan to run in Nostalgia Drags and Sunday cruise's.
Sorry for the long winded story....
Cheers.

Not a bad collection mate.
My first car was a late 60's VH hardtop with a 318 fireball in it. Man I thrashed that rascal every evening for about three years.
Had a few more Aussie motors over the years including an early 70's Charger with the triple carbed 265 Hemi and a four-speed, a couple of Chrysler wagons, a Ford wagon called Bertha (after the wagon on Neighbours), a Falcon XB and an early 70's Monaro. They're hard to find here in Pommieland but usually cheap as the American car community seem to shun them and sneer at the RHD stuff.
I was surprised to see that you had a fair bit of rust repair to do on the sport van from the look of the photos. That's another myth gone then -I thought that nothing rusted in Aussie -just like Arizona cars............!!!!!

Thanks for the compliments guys.
The hardtop you thrashed from the late 60's was either a VF or VG. VH's were produced between 71 and 72....but all equally cool cars.
Not sure why our Aussie mopars are shunned. An Australian took a Aussie 1972 RT Valiant Charger in E49 spec....(that is 265 hemi straight 6 cylinder with factory triple delorto webbers and 4 speed manual) on a road trip round America and reported his adventures back to a popular car mag back here down under. He went to numerous drag meet events and put his car up against all varieties of big block muscle cars...never telling his competitors he was running a 6. He held his own running consistent mid 13 second quarters and caused many red faces when he would pop the hood after the race and show his motor.
Here in New Zealand Valiant Chargers held the track records on most tracks and were considered THE car to have win after win against Camaros, Mustangs, Trans-ams, Falcons, Monaros..etc etc.
As for rust in Australia....we sure get plenty of that as most of the country's population lives on the coast and over half the country is uninhabitable (no water)...but as for my van that was a country car and had bugger all rust...but when I restore a car I take it back to bare metal regardless of where it has come from so as to expose it's bare bones and start from scratch...that way when the car is finished I know it's true condition and have peace of mind that my paint wont blister or peel.
Thanks again for your compliments...that van has taken me many many nights to restore after work and has been a curse on my neighbours and devoted wife...with banging, crashing , grinding away in the shed late into the night. Nearly finished thank christ!
