318 ROCKER ARMS question

Question for every one.

I just rebuilt a 318 , runs like a dream, but the rocker arms tap a little more than i would like ( non adjustable rocker arms.

Question 1. Can i take the adjustable rocker arms and pushrods from the 273 that i swapped out and install them on the 67 318 heads?

Question 2. or can i just swap out my pushrods for ones that are a little longer to take out the slack thus get rid of the tapping noise.

or is ther some secret for getting rid of the tapping on non adjustable rocker arms.

Flat tappet cam with hydraulic lifters.

Thanks guys

should be no issues using the 273 rockers. when you do a longer push rods you cant just put longer ones in they would have to be measured first. are the lifters pumping up properly? the rockers do make a slight sound but it hard to hear with the valve cover on.. (is for me i have poor hearing)

How can i tell if the lifters are pumping up? i know the rocker sound and this is definitley a little more pronounced.

i assume the lifters are pumping up but i am not sure for certain.

I think i might experiment with the 273 rockers and rods.

unless you have a faulty lifter or oil pump, if the engine has been running, they should be ok

does anybody know if it is common for a new motors valves/rocker arms/push rods to tap a little until it is broken in?

i pulled all the lifters on the side that is making the noise and they all were tight and full of oil.

my rocker arms are the non adjustable type. i want to put the 273 rocker arms and push rods on but i'm afraid it won't help because i'm not sure what the problem is.

any insight would be awesome.

thanks guys.

does the tapping go away after the car warms up and runs for a little bit?

It goes a way when the car is above idle rpm. It has progressivley gotten less and less, so i am going to give it some time and see if it takes care of itself.
