440 Big Block Build
Hey guys, I just got a 1975 cast 440 RB and have it down to the bare block. I wanna build it back up to make about 450 to 550 HP. I don't have a car to put it in yet but it'll be some kind of E body. I just need a list of parts that will make the power I'm lookin for. I want to to be super reliable for almost a daily driver. You guys have any suggestions?

I would recommend TRW pistons and rods.
Will the car run on the track a lot?
If not, I recommend an edelbrock cam.
Heads- either old 60's heads or new aluminum ones (whatever your preference is)

Here is my complete list for my 440 build. It should make 450+HP and should be very reliable. 9.5/1 compressiion. This is just the engine build and does not include brackets, pumps, tranny, cooling, carb, and other misc. stuff. I should have her ready to run in a few weeks and I'll post a bunch of pics..

The car will not be at the track a lot. Maybe once or twice a year. Where did you buy all your parts from Sat? I'm really new to all this so you have to talk to me like I'm a kid, this is my first rebuild. I realize that those are part numbers, but where do I find them?

You can get quiet a good deal on a carb, intake,, cam and gasket kit from Summit Racing (or at least you use to be able to). Couple that with a good flowing set of heads, headers/exhaust, and a good ignition upgrade and you will have a good, strong, reliable motor.

Most of the parts can be ordered from Summit, Jegs, and the like. Go to google and type in the part number and description and start learnin.. It will be a great way to educate yourself on your build and what parts are needed..

None of those part numbers work on jegs.com or summitracing.com. I type them into google and the only link it gives me is back to this thread.

Upgrade the dizzy and box to a Mopar Performance unit and Orange Box or go full MSD dizzy, wires, coil, and ignition control box. It all depends on how you plan on driving whatever you put the motor in. If it's just for cruising, I'd get the MP dizzy and OB.

Also, I copied and pasted "213064 Camshaft" on yahoo.com and it cam up with Competition Cams 213064 Bb Chry 383-440 so you might just have to go through a couple of different search engines and maybe add a few words to the description.

Ok so my block is at the machine shop right now. I had to get it bored .030" over, and I'm getting it clearanced for a stroker kit. Also I got the oil pick up tube hole enlarged to 1/2".
Anyone know of a good stroker kit to put in. The biggest stroke I can go is 4.125".
I've done some reading and the consensus is, don't cheap out on the bottom end, cause it's way more work to upgrade in the future. But I still have a budget of about 4 or 5 grand.
So, great stroker kit, nice cam, and decent flowing heads. Sound good?

Have not heard much bad about them, few good things. I think there might be a few here who have used them. I think Apollo ordered one but dont think his charger is on the road yet. DeadKelly did you look into these or have one? I have ordered other parts from them and
ams happy with the parts and customer service was great.

Thanks a lot guys for all the info so far. I can't spend any more money until I put some more back in the account so this thread will probably be quiet till spring time when I have a truck load of parts to slam together on that block.
It's time to go make some money to pay for all the goodies!
