what spark plugs 4 383

i've always and will only run champion plugs in my mopars, heck even in my j10 and thats an AMC. the gap will depend on how much spark your pushing out. If your doing two to three times what the stock voltage would be then I would run the gap around .045.
On my AMC 360 SB, I've got a MSD Blaster 2 coil and an MSD dizzy and thats what I'm running and I've never had a problem.

champion plug's not not everyday items over here
i am sure there around at speed shops ect . but ngk & Bosch are our run of the mill plugs the bp5s plugs i have been using are recommended mopar big block plugs , and are quite warm . i bought a msd blaster 2 coil today installed it & it's still doing the same missing at low rpm's ( only when driving ) under 3200 but seems to be fine when i stand on it . my mate seems to think it could be a too light spring we used in the dizzy . from a new mopar dizzy or a small air leak from the adapter plate under the carb ? how knows it goes better every time we play with it . ok cya's

it could be the spring in the dizzy, could be the way your carb is tuned. Its hard to pin point the problem or problems. there could be more than one cause for the missing at low RPMs.
If it was me, I'd go through and double check things, write down adjustments where thing are at and then play around with the settings.

yeah its one of those things
78d200 thanks for your feed back well the tuning is not finished , when it was at the dyno shop a while ago i had ign problems ( i bought a new mopar dizzy & orange box kit ) & the orange box was pulling timing out as the rpms went up ( heaps of people said they were rubbish & the dizzy was flimsy ) 2 degrees out and she runs crap , anyway the adaptor plate was off a old burnt out junk box from the local bushland , so it's probably warped . ol mate who tuned her said he can't tune it any more till i fixed the ignition and milled the adaptor plate . i can't wait to take her back down for final tuning . i think some where near 300 at the treads . that's with stock 906 heads . it was 261.4 rwhp @ 5500 rpm before the msd , blaster coil & better dizzy . it is a whole new car to drive now , iam racing it on saterday i'll let yous know how it goes . best time was 14.1 @ 97 mph . any got to go cya mate .

with the proper tuning you'll be surprised as to how much power you will get and how smooth the vehicle will run.
good luck on saturday. post some pics if you can!

hello all
i am still on a friends computer but can tell ya . i set the gaps at .032 & the missing stopped . i ran a 13.46 @ 102 mph , very concistantly i still haven't had it tuned yet . ok cya

You should run the biggest gap you can before it misfires, The faster you get the spark to reach .100 in length the the faster it will ignite the fuel mixture. If your ignition system can handle it, run a .070 gap, thats the max you should run on a street car. If you have all the stuff for your 6al msd, you should have no problem sparking that gap. We done some testing with spark plugs with a adjustable gap tester and autolite plugs had the best spark and they are some of the cheapest plugs.

Sounds good. I'd be willing to bet that once you get her tuned in, you'll get into the low 13s.... maybe even under 13.

just got computer back
ok i was speaking to a bloke at the track the other night & he has a 265 hemi aussie six cylinder in his ute ,( he runs low 14's @ 96 mph ) he gains about 1 mph by droping his tail gate down . wich i have not done yet also my timing is still set @ 32 total & my plugs are also .032 , ( that was the set up for the orange box & mopar dizzy ) i am broke now till i go back to work , will have it on the dyno asap . i am sure a good tune up & droping the tailgate should get me very close to a flat 13 . i also have a 3.9 ratio 8 3/4 & hood scoop that should be in by the end of jan .
ps iam doing 5000 rpm over the line as it is with 3.50 & 26 in tyre . cya's

anyone know of short spark plugs to use in bb heads?
is there any shorter plugs i can use in 906 heads & indy ez heads ?
if i can find shorter plugs it would keep my lead caps away from me pipes .
and in the case of my indy's i may get away with using the headers i have now for awhile . thanks .

heres some spark plug tips. spark plugs do not create heat. they are designed to remove heat. (and make spark) the heat range of a plug is the ability to pull heat from an engine. the heat range has nothing to do with the how hot the spark is. typically the lower the number of the plug the hotter the plug is. the hotter the plug the slower it dissipates heat. the higher the number the colder the plug which colder the plug dissipates heat faster. so the higher the compression the colder the plug you will need. rule of thumb to remember is for every 100 HP you add run 1 heat range cooler. (made up numbers here) rj6y is a hotter plug than rj7y plug. hang in there with me. so say you got a stock engine and you are running rj6y plugs, and you up the hp with higher ratio pistions, big cam, after market intake and carb. it would be a good idea to go to rj7y plug. hope this helps! p.s.autolite!

comprendy . thanks but my issue is with my plugs touching the headers .
which i dented to make them fit . & now my indy heads with angled plugs run smack bang into them ...
so if i use a shorter plug i won't be melting my leads & just maybe i might be able to use my indy heads without buying custom headers for now ????
thanks for the input anyway

Salutations!
Wanted to say hello and express how happy I am to have found a Mopar forum! I own a 1966 Chrysler Newport, 2dr, hard top with a 383 under the hood. And I FREAKIN LOVE IT!!! As you all know, the car is a perfect example of "They don't make em' like they used too!".
