what tranny do I have?
Hi all,
I have a 1977 Power Wagon with a 360. I am rebuilding the engine and currently shopping for a torque converter.
The problem is I'm not sure what transmission I have. I couldn't find a part number (where would this be). I was able to count 27 splines on the input shaft.
Looking around online, it wasn't clear whether the truck comes stock w/ the torqueflite 727 or the 904.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Travis

Welcome to the Forum,
Maybe a photo of the trans you have would help. I have to confess to being stupid on those without additional infomation. Was the shifter on the column or where? The 904 was light duty unit for small block V8's and slant sixes. The 360 probably used the A-727-B. ID should be raised letters cast on the lower left side of the bell housing. There may be a 7 stamped on the side of the oil pan rail. Tail shaft is usually longer than the 904. Not sure about the spline count.
Again, welcome aboard.

Thanks guys,
This is good info. That article is good about pointing out week points that can be fixed.
The shifter is on the column. The truck is on my brothers land, I'll take another look this weekend to try and find the part #.
Yeah, i'm glad i joined. I'm sure this will be a great resource, got a lot of work to ahead.
