727 problems.

So I figured I'd ask before diving in and rebuilding my whole transmission. It is in drive regardless of what gear I shift it into. If it's in a forward gear it goes forward, if it's in neutral it goes forward, if it's in reverse it tries to go forward and backward at the same time, and if it's in park it tries to go forward but the parking pall holds it still. Should I rebuild or is there something less intense that's gone wrong. I've never had this problem with any other car so this is my first time troubleshooting something like this. Hope to get an answer ASAP so I know what to spend my money on. Thanks for any advice!

sounds like the rear clutch is dragging. I would change the fluid and filter first to see if it helps. get a good tranny service manual like ATSG's.

good luck,john

It probably is an internal problem. Before tearing it apart I would check the shift linkage and the detent. Make sure the trans levers are tight !

Thanks guys, how do I check the detent? I was wondering if it could also be a band problem? The linkage seems fine.

You can feel the detent when you move the lever
