A-833 looks like an A-body unit, on the flat pad on the right side there should be some numbers, they will help determine what year it is.

Face to tail end.
A+F= 23.2"
B+E= 27.0"
Looks like 23 spline.

Also, I don't know how to tell an overdrive unit "by looking." One easy way is to realize that 3-4 gear is "reversed." Since there is no shift lever on the 3-4 (front) shaft, take a wrench and rotate the shaft CW, which is into 3rd for a conventional 4 speed, and OD for the "OD" unit. Then rotate the input shaft ONE turn and watch the output.

A conventional 4 speed will rotate the output LESS than one turn (3rd)

An OD unit will rotate the output MORE than a full turn

(Shifting the lever COUNTER clockwise will put EITHER box into "straight through" gear, which is 4th for a conventional box, or "3rd" for an OD box)

thanks for all the info. i am in the process of looking for a speedometer cable for it as well. i just got off the phone with Summit and they mentioned a great mopar parts site but i didnt get the name, i misunderstood it on the phone. like i mentioned in previous posts, my car was used for drag racing at the local track back in the 90s and since then the rings have become junk. i have the engine out right now rings will be in monday, but since i got it out i figured it would be cake to put the speedo cable in with no obstructions in the way. i have not been able to afford to put time and money into a nice mopar before but now i have the time and never really surfed the net to find good sites for parts, so if anyone knows a site, or many, please let me know!!!
