Valve Body Question
When I bought my 66 Coronet it came with a Turbo Action Cheetah #17156 Manual Reverse Pattern valve body installed. The box that it came in says (absolutely not for street use). The engine is a well built 67 440 Super Commando. The trans is a 727 with a SB torque converter. I would like to put in something better suited for street use. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

ct -
I've had a manual valve body in my Charger since 1982. If you don't mind manually shifting and understand that powered down shifts aren't allowed they can be a lot of fun.
And, you don't need a kick-down linkage...
BTW - I'm not the only guy running one on the street around my neck of the woods.

The concern with the 17156 valve body is it does not apply the low band so it has no engine braking in first gear. This makes it easier to roll the overrunning clutch and that could cause the front drum to fail and cause major damage or injury. There is nothing wrong with running a manual valve body on the street but i would get one with low band apply.

Google "torqueflite explosions," etc to find out why. The "whole deal" seems to be the difference in front drum size and weight as compared to the lighter 904.
I LOVE my manual/ reverse pattern valve and would not get rid of it.
Wish I'd had one of these "back then" for winter driving--you could start off in 2nd or even 3rd on icy roads.

I love my ATC shift kit i manually shift it 90 % of the time but i can also leave it in D and she shifts up/down at 2000rpm, and with some of the options in the kit she will down shift in any gear at any rpm.
