Asking for my boss, so I'd better sound smart!

Hi, everyone -

My boss has a 1965 Plymouth Valiant Signet convertible he is thinking about selling. He's the second owner. He bought it for himself when he returned from this second tour of duty in Vietnam in 1970. By the way, he retired as a Three Star General....

He needs to know what this car is worth. He has an idea, but has never been part of any forum or car club or anything like that, so I offered to do a little research for him. My husband is a Camaro guy, and not real familiar with the value of this type car. But I know you guys will know!
    • 1965 Plymouth Valiant Convertible Signet
    • White with Red interior
    • 283 HP
    • V-8
    • Matching number car
    • Stock (Original radio is for looks; functioning radio/CD player is in glovebox, out of sight and operable.)
    • He's the second owenr and has the original window sticker, manuals, etc.
    • A little pitting on some chrome, but otherwise a very good condition.
Your opinions would be so appreciated! I don't want to see him taken advantage of by a buyer.

Does the Signet have a power top? The engine should be a 273. Is it automatic? Miles on speedo? Is it running and tagged? Is the engine 2 barrel carb or four barrel?

Those are some really good questions. If I can't get in touch with him this weekend, I will definitely get the answers on Monday and will shoot them back to you. If you think of anything else I need to ask him, just let me know.

Thanks!

Susan

By the way, I hope to change my user name. I just registered today and must have done something really dumb because it picked up my email address instead of the user name I thought I chose... So hopefully, if the administrator Gods are kind to me, you may see my user name change to Yorkie Mama.

Hi!

I got some answers about the car.... 1965 Plymouth Valiant Convertible Signet
  • It does have a power top
  • My mistake; it is a 273 engine
  • Automatic transmission with shift on the floor
  • It has approximately 6k on the odometer, 3rd time around.
  • Engine was completely rebuilt within the last three years
  • Tagged and driven only on the weekends
  • It has a two0barrel carb
And the origianl information offered so it's all in one place...

Let me know if I need to ask him more questions. I told him we will need to take photos for interested parties, too. I'll set up a gallery for him when that's done.

Looking forward to all the expert opinions!

Th Generals Ride

Susan,

A 1965 Plymouth Valiant Signet V8 Convertible, according to the old Cars price guide is priced as followes:

Rough Shape #5 $3360. / Good Condition #4 $5600. / Very Good #3 $12000.

With your description especially with very high milege I'd #4

Those prices are from past sales that are reported to the people who put together the book, So if there's only a little activity in the model your telling me about, the figures may not be accurate as if 100 cars where sold and this was an average of all of them.

I hope this helps.

Thank you so much! I think he had hoped a little higher.... maybe with the rebuilt engine it can creep up towards the high end!
