1968 Roadrunner
Hi there,
My 1968 roadrunner is on the way to me. Any thoughts on what I need to do to get a car that has been 'mostly' parked since the late 80's? I think the engine and tranny are newer. The car was inside the whole time, somewhere near KC. I thinking brake cylinders, anything that would dry up. Thoughts?
Mopar NOOB.

Do you have any luck at anything. Seriously though, you could potentially have a lot of problems. It depends how the car was stored before you got it. Rubber lines seem to be what i would look at first. Then see if you can turn the motor over by hand after you have removed the spark plugs and putting some marvel mysteryoil down the holes. Of course look for the obvious leaks [anything that holds any kind of fluid]. The needle and seat on the carb will likley stick even if you do happen to get the fuel pumo to pump any fuel. Change the plug wires for sure and file the points at least[if it has points]. Fresh fuel in the tank and try to blow out the fuel lines with air. I would put a little bit of the mystery oil down the vent tube of the carb [not more than tspn]. By the way, try not to inhale any of the old gas fumes from the old fuel in the tank, you,ll get a serious headache. Oh, change the fuel filter the oil filter and the oil. Again, look VERY CAREFULLY AT ANY RUBBER LINES. Especially the rubber brake lines. It would reall s#ck if you got the thing running, went for a drive hit the brakes and crashed the car.

hello 67GTX, hey i haven't intro'd myself very well; sorry 'bout that. I'm new to this forum deal. Any way, I really dig the GIT-EX [what I call a GTX]. Used to have a 67 Belvedere. Friend of mine used to have a 67 hemi GTX,[when i was living in FL].

Hey guys, I really need help on the hood pin issue. I will be buying a hinged 6 pack hood down later from US body source (or whatever its called) and just want to use the pin on hood it came with. I need to buy hardware and drill the holes. Shoudl I not F around and the kit made for the 69 1/2 6 pack RR, or will two universals work? I am not worried about the pin set looking correct, cuz its the wrong hood for the year anyway.

Not an expert on what it should be but I would shy away from drilling any holes for hood pins... unless they will be on a hood you don't care about. but keep the engine bay as clean as you can. If you are eventually going to get a correct hood- I would even run NO HOOD for a small time until you can get the right one and if paint is an issue- hit it with some semi-gloss or flat black till fresh paint is affordable. But if you are set on the pins, put them in a spot (engine bay) where you don't have to drill and then drill away (hood only) to make it work. If you are going to get a correct hood- then I would keep cost down on pins- so whichever is cheaper...

Hope you have as good as luck as me, I bought a 1969 roadrunner after it sat for 20 years out in the weather, got it home and a set of 8 dollar spark plugs and it was ready to go. About the hood, i would buy a set from year one or paddock, cant remember which one has it, but they have a kit that has everything to make it look like they did back in the day, comes with the mounts for the back pins and pins, cables, rivets, rubber stops, everything you need.

Car is here. Needs quarters I can get away with just skins however, car is very solid. I almost dont want to post what I am doing with the car, as i am sure the purists will slaughter me. Keeping the six pack hood should give a pretty clear indication of my intentions

that aint orange, thats Peach Sherbert! GROSS. The whole car will be stripped and be painted Hemi or Vitamin C orange, whicever is the richer middle darkness one. The reason its peach is it was sitting in a shop for 20 years in black primer, and the guy decided to spray it with some crappy paint he had left to seal it up.

Well, it looks like a good car. Start from the front and work your way to the back going over every little thing there is. If you see a problem, write it down and keep going. Let us know what you find and we can help you from there.

Starting with the front ;
I want to go with disc brakes, is it better to piece together a later B body setup or go with a kit. Second, The brackets bolting the PS pump and alternator look backyard, where can I get these brackets for a non AC car?

OK, so, here is the latest update. One of my stepson's teamate's Dad is an awesome backyard mechanic, who offered to do the work for a great price. So, it was there for two days and trunk was patched and the entire underneath of the car has been stripped. Between Summit, PST and Ebay, here is what I bought with money that was supposed to pay down my divorce debt
Disc brake conversion kit, the one that uses the stock spindels
New leaf springs
PST front end rebuild kit, along with a new pitman and idler arm
Front and rear sway bar kits
Gas tank
Radiator
Rear brake rebuild kit
Rebuilt 3rd member with 3:91 gears, sure grip (made a mistake, bought one with a 741 case)
And a bunch of small stuff

My orders from Summit came through flawlessly, PST pooped the bed They only gave me one tracking number for a shipment with two boxes, and because of the flooding I have to drive another 3 hours to get the 'lost' one (i use a parcel service in North Dakota). To boot, I found the same kit that PST sells at Summit for $100 cheaper. Sure pays to do research, Summit all the way for any part I ever need from now on.

All of the mechanical stuff is done. Its almost new from front to back. So now, not much money left, but , a question. I cannot drive it around that color, its just not right and maybe even a little gay. So..... My buddy and I have debated. Get it backed to a sealed primer so at least I can drive it this summer, then replace the 1/4 skins and the other small amount of metal, plus new bumpers and trim and have it painted in two years when I build my double garage and can have a nice car safely partked. Or......regrind the body work that is done, prime it, and use and inexpensive single stage urethane hemi orange so i can have a have decent looking car until said metal work is done and the proper two stage paint job is doen. again, at least two years until double garage. Thoughts?
