318 poly to 440 in a 64 polara 440

got beat at a light by a prius so.... found a b/b trans with slip yoke and drive shaft(rebuilt now and a transgo stage 2 shift kit installed) , ordered up from schumackers the header kit-ministarter-new trans mount-and asst. nuts and bolts, got a stock 440 out of a imperial with 60k on it(good compression and checked out with borescope. project "prius scrouge" starts as the schumacker order arrives. never did a engine conversion before . have help from a bud that has with chubs. sortin' out the electircal is my only concern at this point. everything else seems to be covered well , just plan on lengthing the engine loom ... but like i said i have never done this on a car(several motorcycles though). will try to take some pics , specially of any difficult parts.

These cars were offered with big block engines, so this should be a "bolt in" if you get the right parts, engine mounts, etc

I don't know what you'll do about the push--button trans? Easiest of course would be to round up an aftermarket shifter, B&M, etc. They are rare, but 65 ONLY used a slip yoke trans with push button shifter.

I don't remember, your radiator lower outlet might be switched side for side, and you might need a larger radiator.

I have to tell ya, though, I've seen plenty of 318s that would beat a Prius and alot of other stuff

Back in the '70's someone I knew built a "class car" 318 Poly in about a 63? B body with a (big) two barrel. Ran 13 ' o's right off the trailer, and back then, on the national record

A 318 to a 440 is a big jump in power. Make sure you read all the instructions and warnings that come with the Shumacher kit and you will be fine. No 7 1/4" rear and front disc brakes are required.
