440 coronet project

The project has begun. Got the motor out of a 73 rv 85,000 miles. Motor's tight. I'm just going to clean it up and slap some paint on it and put it in. I got the torque converter just in case. Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

That is a RV motor home 440 alright. You will need a center hump pan and some new motor mounts. You can go with the Schmacher Creative motor mounts.

RV motor is fine, just remember it is a low compression motor, motor mounts are different, oil pan is different I would replace all the gaskets and maybe the timing chain, frost plugs, water pump. Maybe a valve job ??? depends on what it looks like inside with the valve cover off ??

At least replace the valve stem seals !!!

Everything looks really clean and tight. Except the cylinder heads. The exhaust ports are pretty gunked up. How much is it usually to have work on heads? Like port, valve job etc...

If the exhaust ports are pretty gunked up, then that's usually a sign that there could be issues elsewhere in the motor. I would do a compression test on it just to make sure it doesn't have compression issues making it burn oil/not burn everything completely, hence the gunk in the ports. You just never know.

rebuild it

it's $1000.00 to $1500 for a rebuild of you motor as long as the heads don't need too much work . well worth the time and effort of the install and removel and reinstall .
